World’s largest cruise ship labeled ‘monstrosity’ ahead of maiden voyage

With a capacity of 7,500 and a huge number of those being under 18..along with another vast amount of teenagers, I doubt it will be long before we hear of some unfortunate incidents...

Some people like the huge cruise ships. But, they are not my cup of tea. Perhaps when i get to an age where I must have an elevator nearby I’ll star5 cruising a smaller ship.

There is some video and pictures of sea trials out there but has anyone found actual pictures and not cgi/artist rendering of the interiors?

The award-winning youth program for kids of 6 months to 12 years old, Adventure Ocean.

I dunno how they can win an award for something that hasn't been tested yet...

As a matter of interest... and essentially what keeps me from going on any cruise....

Norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships have skyrocketed this year.
On a Celebrity Cruises voyage in May, 7% or 152 of the 2,144 passengers were infected, and 2.6% or 25 of the 963 crew members contracted the virus.

Another case in May saw 246 or 12.4% of the 1,971 passengers contract norovirus, and 38 or 4.6% of the 826 crew members.
In a Princess Cruises voyage onboard the Ruby Princess, nearly 10% of the 2,881 passengers reported symptoms characteristic of norovirus.

8000 people. How quaint. :D

I don' t understand the attraction, but it'll only remain a business if people pay and go. I don't begrudge others, but I don't personally think it's for me. But then, a boat of 4000 isn't for me. I mean, it's Pontin's on water, no?

For an (mildly) hermitical introvert cruising on that ship would be a nightmare. They would have to pay ME big bucks to mingle with the mob! I wonder what one of those river cruises is like (Rhine, Danube)? They look so tempting to me, but I hear they are having problems with water levels these days! Everything concerning the climate is changing on us, day by day!

well lol..I take your point.. it would have to have some serious issues to be compared to Pontins... but to me it would be more like Magaluf 18-30's..combined with Benidorm OAP's ...*ugh*

tbf - I have a bad emotional thing about Pontins. My parents used to take us, and that was okay. But one time I met this girl, and we became - in as much as you can in a short time - partners. I was young, 13 or so. So, one night we were alone in the chalet, and we were talking. Then, she said she needed to take her "medicine", and that she had forgot. I sat there and watched her inject herself with insulin. Now, as an adult, I understand this was due to diabetes, and there's nothing wrong. But my young, ignorant self? Traumatized. I'd never seen such a thing. Hell, it's stuck with me all this time. Isn't it weird how memory works? This incident, at the time, even made me cry!

Could you translate that please, for us non Brits, HD?
Magaluf is a notorious Spanish holiday party resort town in Majorca for young 18-30 holidays ..where they kinda get out of hand often, creating mayhem ...on the other side of Spain is a coastal town called benadorm which is again known for cheap alcohol..cheap accomodation, and attracts many British older people (Old age pensioners)... during the summer and winter months in search of sun, sea, and sangria... neither place have good reputations..

Thanks for the explanation, HD. My daughter and Son-in-law stopped going to the usual Mexican resorts for the same reason. They found them too rowdy because of so many of the College students from the Southern U.S. (a relatively short flight from there), taking over to have a bit of vacation fun.

I think everybody should travel on cruise ships all the time. They’re fun, full of new friends, have lots to eat, visit many places, are good value for the money, and you only have to unpack and pack up once, not every few nights. Besides, they don‘t have curmedgeons like me on them.

So cruise away, everybody! Send me a postcard if you must.
