I have labyrinthitis - any advice please

Things are spinning and swaying. I feel so sick.

Thankfully my husband is taking care of me, he will get the shopping.

Is this thing worst for just the first week?
Rose, the medication you are given is probably a form of antihistamine. The dizziness could last a week or much longer.
If your hubby can accompany you to the loo at night that would be safe and if at all possible, try to have your head higher,
maybe two pillows and top of the list don’t stress, which could worsen things.
I specially asked my son, he is a doctor.

It is so frightening. I am so nauseous and the room spins with any head movement.

I saw the GP. I have medication and must just cope now.

Please someone tell me this will get better! I have never experienced anything so alarming.
it does get better..I am here to reassure you.. it's horrible to have it while it lasts but it usually is gone within a week or so.. if not before.. dizzyness might last a little longer...

Ask your doctor for Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets to stop the nausea . Hope you feel better soon Rose...but as long as you know it will stop, you'll feel more relaxed..

Didn't your doctor give you any indication on what to expect? He/she should have!
Yes, got tablets for vertigo, advice to rest and improvement should be in a week or so. Further treatment if necessary.

I just didn't expect to feel as horrific as I do today. I tried to carry on as usual, failed, now in bed. Hubby doing everything for me. Cannot move without room spinning and wanting to throw up.

Doc gave me Betahistine tablets.

Thanks so very much. It's vital to know this will get better. I have never known anything like it - to lose control of my balance.

Thanks, very reassuring.

Isn't it a massive danger that a person can fall? I am holding onto furniture.
I managed a careful slow bath.
That's what I did when I had it a few years ago... held onto furniture, but also walls as I moved along. I made sure to move more slowly than usual, too, and stayed mindful of not falling with each step. I hope you feel better soon! 💐

These are questions you should be asking your doctor or that your doctor should have explained to you. I sometimes get this bad. One year while building my greenhouse I passed out and fell on the gravel rock flooring giving myself a huge black eye. I’m not sure how long I was out for but my glasses fell off my face landing just underneath my left eye.

Another time I had this and while walking the dogs, fell from dizziness. Luckily I didn’t pass out since I was on the road with dogs to care for but almost did.

I’m with Kate. If you absolutely have to get up and move around, make sure you have support to hang on to or ask your husband for assistance. Try and calm down. Stressing yourself out is only adding to your discomfort.

Plop yourself down in bed or a comfortable chair and listen to music , an audio book or watch television. This doesn’t instantly get better. It takes time. Patience is crucial.

I use Zofran for nausea. It’s the same medication they give pregnant women if they have morning sickness. You can get an injection, pills, or an IV., depending on what your doctor orders. It does take away the nausea you are feeling. I’m no doctor, but I know what works for me, and this stuff does. Funny how I got my first dose. I was at a homicide scene where the victim had been decapitated. I had to go outside and vomit. The paramedic gave me a shot of Zofran and 20 minutes later, the nausea was gone.

Reading over the posts, you have quite a selection of choices.

So tinnitus was the first symptom 3 days ago. Still pounding in my head.

I am miserably sick and in bed for now. Sickness and dizziness as soon as I get up. This is frightening.
I am lucky to have a husband who is keeping everything going.
Sorry to hear you are going through this, @Rose65 ! I think I had it in my 20s and found out it was caused from a viral infection. It eventually went away on its own. So please rest, and take whatever meds your doctor has prescribed. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

One other thought: Whenever I had an ear infection, I would take some cotton and dip it into some warm oil (not too hot) and plug my ear with it so that the air did not go into the ear (the air caused pain). It seemed to help. Just an idea.
