Are There Any Celebrities Whose Deaths Make You Very Sad?

When Gregory Hines died, I cried. Gregory always reminded me so much of my cousin Ronnie in appearance and the personality of his character in Running Scared was so much like my cousin's. Ronnie drowned when he was 26. Lee Thompson Young's (Rizzoli & Isles) death really upset me too. He was my favorite young actor. I know I'd be upset if we lost David Muir (World News Tonight), Queen Latifah, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bruce Willis, the GMA team, Oprah and of course my cousins actors Keith David and Kendra Johnson.

In the music world Frankie Beverly, The Whispers twin brothers Walter and Scotty, MIchael E and Jesse Gold. I'm sure there are others, some of whom I don't even realize now. I felt very bad about Treat Williams death for a few days after he was killed. And now I'm seeing him play a recurring character on Blue Bloods.

All feelings about celebrities are based upon psychological projections and aren't real unless you were close, personal friends with them .

I get annoyed when a celebrity dropped out of the public eye many years ago and then, when they pass away, people post that they're going to miss them. (Often we weren't even sure they were alive). We weren't going to see them again doing what we loved even if they still lived.

These celebrities sang songs, acted in films, appeared on TV to make money in a way that's best for them. Did we fall in love with their work? Sure. Did we love who they were in real life? We didn't know them in any way that wasn't put out by their publicist.

All of them performed what someone wrote and they had charismatic presence enough to sell it. None of them really felt the emotions they portrayed. It was all theater.

Sometimes we're taken by surprise and saddened by the death of a celebrity but that's just a reaction to our having come to love their performances time and time again. But that's when realizing it was the love of performances many years ago and not a love for that person that we just let it go.

This guy, Paul Reubens, best know as Pee-Wee Herman. He ruled American 1980’s Saturday morning kid’s TV as a man-child, kind of a demented kiddie show host. In his red bow tie, white shoes, and too-small gray suit, he could be appreciated for his off-beat humor by adults, too. He was the perennial child in all of us, a living absurdity…

When I first heard Don McLean's American Pie, the reference to Buddy Holly's death touched a nerve.
"But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step."

"I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died."

I never like hearing that anyone has died, but celebrities are not friend or relatives, so not very sad... not like losing someone I actually know.

Some of their stories are sad, and some I miss. Probably what most affects me is realizing many people near my age are dying... a reminder of my own mortality. Not always a bad thing, none of us get out of this place alive, but all get out.

Yes quite a few.. and having worked with ome of them it's always a shock.. but in reality celbrities can hardly be missed by anyone outside their families because we still see them on TV..on film..or listen to their music... as tho' they were still very much with us

I have often wondered how it must feel to see your deceased loved one on TV... Seems like it might be kind of bittersweet.

As @Pinky says I do miss talent and new things from good actors. For example losing James Gandolfini... I'd like to see more Sopranos, but it ain't going to happen.

I would imagine that is different, you actually know lots of celebrities, not me.

John Denver. Music was not his first passion.
Someone in here posted an awesome documentary on the environmental and wildlife preservation passions of John Denver. His music was in the documentary and also his thoughts even while flying his plane in parts. He died shortly after it was filmed. He wrote a song specifically for the documentary...his last song. If anyone can post that documentary I would love to watch it again. It was from National Geographic I think 😞

A lot of times when it's an older person, I end up saying "I didn't even know they were still living!" because there's been no word about them in many years... no shock usually, just sadness sometimes. But Robin Williams... that one bothered me because no one knew.

I think anyone who takes their own lives.. are a major shock...

George really did bring out the tears of a nation when he died this month. My wife adored him.

yes that was very sad.. a really stoical man. Not looking forward to hearing of the death of Johnny Irwin , which unfortunately won't be too long now. Seems so unfair when they are young and have young families

Gordon Jackson was a favourite actor of mine. Mainly because of his role as head butler - Hudson - in the original Upstairs Downstairs
Here with Angela Baddeley - head cook Mrs Bridges
Gordon was a big sadness for me, because he was such a lovely man... and he suffered terribly with bone cancer.. again too young...:(
