Day 5 of Quitting Smoklng

When I quit, someone advised me to get some 'Red Zinger' tea and to drink it instead of my normal coffee (or tea). As this was a big trigger for us to have a smoke. I did that and it really helped me at my coffee times. Just...FYI and consideration

How are you doing and how long has it been, so far?

Only having really bad craving 2-3 times per day. I bought some cherry mints which are helping.

Quitting I find is quite easy...it's staying quit that can be problematic.
How long
If you don't quit you could end up like me. I'm on oxygen 24/7, all the things I used to enjoy I can no longer do without a lot of fuss. Even getting dressed is a chore. Thankfully at least we don't have to pay for all this stuff!
..and my ex husband who can barely take a step without gasping for breath, in a terrible state at just 67..... yet..unbelievably still smokes a cigarette or 2 every day...

Remember the movie Cold Turkey? Dick Van Dyke's character had a good substitution for cravings. Just a thought.

I feel really bizarre and skittish today like I'm walking in a fun house full of mirrors or something. The withdrawal is killing me. But I haven't caved in yet. Tomorrow night will be one full week off of the weed.

Like I said, if I can get 2 months under my belt I feel like I'll be on my way.

Anyhoo...I raised twin girls to adulthood which I figure was the hardest pressed I've ever been. This quitting smoking shouldn't be as hard by comparison. I spoke to my Dad yesterday who quit 35 years ago. He simply said, "Son. Don't let yourself down." It's so true. I'm quitting for myself and would only be letting myself down if I don't follow through.

Beezer, how many packs a day did you smoke? Assuming that's 1 pack/day, and you're in the USA, that's at least $5 a day if you don't smoke. Take whatever you spend on smoking in a day and put it in a pile in the middle of where you eat. After 7 days that's $35, after a month the pile is$150. When the pile is big enough to get a special present for you, buy it.

Happy for you Beezer and the best part is that your sense of smell will come back !!!! Your Taste bugs will come back too,, and you have stopped coughing and its the most wonderful thing to happen to you ,!!

I started at age 13 and quit at age 60 on my birhtday,!! yes its hard to quit, but if i had the urge to smoke i had a big bag of those little hard candies to make it go away, and it worked!! Took almost 6 months to do it .. im smoke free now and have quit the habit that could fo taken my life much earlier then i had tought, by the way im 80 yrs old now ,,and in good health,, well i do have a pace maker, so i can still live a long life,...Good Lord Willing!!

Also i Wanted tell you the reason i quit smoking is because one time i was in the grocery store and and all of a sudden i had a coughing jag,,,!!i i could not quit coughing !!!, A man put his arm around my shoulder and i asked him if he could please excort me out the door, , finally after i quit coughing i made my commitment to quit,!!!!! , it was a very scary time for me to have that happen but was meant to be, because it did maKe me quit smoking and it worked,!!! and thanks to my Good Lord !!
