Do you think Vaping is healthier then smoking?

I will be reading this thread if anyone decides to post,
but I 'won't' be posting further.

I am in the midst of a family discussion of sorts with
someone close to me. Some things I obviously cannot
answer in our chats, because I do not smoke or vape.

I have friends who both smoke or vape, so I listen and
always have to what they share when chat might arise
amongst us. For me, I don't care who smokes or vapes.

Just generally, I'd like to hear what your thoughts are,

if you want to share.

I started vaping about 8 years ago. I had quit smoking long before that, and someone we knew had started. It was very popular to use vaping to quit smoking. I originally thought it wasn't close to being as harmful as smoking. I still vape and I have no related illnesses yet. It doesn't clog my lungs or cause any coughing like smoking does. I use 6% nicotine e-juice.

I try to only suck fresh air or filtered air into my lungs. Nuff for us! We have 6 room filters and a Whole house filter here. The Diesels are a constant hum in the distance driving by at 70 mph. The latest news is Tire wear and road pollution of the air we breathe.

The lady in the next house to me said they only smoke the Hookah; they are from Iran. She said they have different flavours and are pleasant to smoke. My dear friend used to smoke anything she could get her hands on, cigarettes, cigars and black cigarettes with a gold tip dipped in wine. ? She is no longer with us.

The reports here in the press are dire, supposedly from
medical people and scientists, most E-cigarettes are said
to contain high doses of nicotine, higher than tobacco
Cigarettes, plus other chemicals, to prevent mould, to
make them smell nicer, or taste better, I can't remember
all that they speak about, but it should put anybody off
from using them.

Unfortunately young people don't read newspapers, or
listen to news broadcasts.

There are reports recently of children, both young and
teenagers, ending up in hospital, with serious illnesses
that were not named in the reports that I heard or watched
on the TV.

Leave them alone, is my advice!

Mike.
P.S. I just asked Google, Google knows everything, bleeding
in the lungs is one illness, they suffer from.
Metro Article Here.

I personally don’t know anyone who vapes, although there are shops that cater to the vape crowd around here. Vaping supposedly is a problem in secondary schools as it doesn’t “broadcast” it’s user as much, and is easier to conceal than cigarettes. Both traditional tobacco smoking and vaping are nicotine delivery systems and both addictive and unhealthy. The only safe way to smoke is like Morticia Addams, and few are they who can just emanate smoke…. 🚬

Neither one is healthier than the other. Vaping is less dangerous than smoking, but both have their dangers. Why anyone wants to suck chemicals into their lungs is beyond me.

The last person I went to visit that died from lung cancer had his x-ray attached to his bed post for visitors to see and maybe quit smoking if they were a smoker. The x-ray had 4 black splotches on it, the smallest being 6mm. All 4 were cancerous tumors and that was only on the one side. He died 8 days after I visited him. While I visited him, he would cough and spit blood from his lungs.

Never done either, except for my 10 or so cigars a year. However I believe smoking is worse for you than vaping, and that seems to be what most of the science is saying... for now. Neither are good ideas, but I think if vaping gets a smoker off of cigarettes its a good thing. Stopping would be better, but does not seem possible for some. A non-smoker starting vaping is a really bad idea...

Lots of people want to know about the health effects of e-cigarettes. They’re still a relatively new product, so it’s too soon to know for sure. Many studies show that vaping is far less harmful than smoking. This is because e-cigarettes don’t contain cancer-causing tobacco, and most of the toxic chemicals found in cigarettes are not in e-cigarettes.

Some potentially harmful chemicals have been found in e-cigarettes. But levels are usually low and generally far lower than in tobacco cigarettes.

Vaping is less harmful than smoking, but it’s still not safe.

E-cigarettes heat nicotine (extracted from tobacco), flavorings and other chemicals to create an aerosol that you inhale. Regular tobacco cigarettes contain 7,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic. While we don’t know exactly what chemicals are in e-cigarettes, Blaha says “There’s almost no doubt that vaping exposes you to fewer toxic chemicals than smoking traditional cigarettes.”

However, there has been an outbreak of lung injuries and deaths associated with vaping. In February 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 2,807 cases of e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) and 68 deaths attributed to that condition.

“These cases appear to predominantly affect people who modify their vaping devices or use black market modified e-liquids. This is especially true for vaping products containing THC,” explains Blaha.

They say vape has chemcials like benzene in it. E cigerattees that are vaped in particular.

This is true, however as stated in the cited article "The levels, nevertheless, were still 50 to 100 times lower than in smoke from conventional cigarettes, which deliver considerable benzene." Gasoline vapors contain far more benzene than cigarette smoke or vape, and for many of us probably represents the greatest exposure to benzene.

You are still pumping crap into your lungs, whether it makes you cough or not.
That's my thought as well. Neither one are good for you, trying to qualify one as better than the other is foolish.

No it is not foolish. Vaping has helped millions of people quit smoking. 90% of studies I have ever read says it is less harmful that smoking. Again, please do some research.

"Less harmful" does not, in any way, mean "no harm". That's like saying getting your throat cut is more harmful than getting your hand cut off. You can bleed to death either way, but one may be faster...

OK I will give you that Vaping is less harmful than cigarettes and can be an effective step to help those trying to quit cigarettes. I've read enough to concede that point.

I guess we could split hairs on the thread title, "is Vaping healthier than smoking?" while your statement is it's "less harmful", I see that as two different things.

It depends on what and how you vape.

Originally, vaping devices were designed so that nothing went into your lungs. The "juice" vaporized in your mouth. Naturally, that's why they called it vaping. And, originally, the only juices that were available contained various strengths of nicotine, but no tars or any type of particulates.

So, originally, vaping was far less dangerous for your lungs than cigarettes.

But Big Tobacco launched a multi-million dollar campaign to ruin vape companies. So vape companies started designing new devices that allowed people to smoke liquid marijuana in them which were more efficient at allowing absorption via your respiratory system.

Meanwhile, in addition to liquid marijuana, juice producers started cranking out a wide variety of flavored juices containing chemical ingredients that pose various health risks.

All that happened within just a few years.

I do not understand this distinction. Less harmful IS healthier.
