Holly molly! What's all the fuss. The culture there see's kissing for happy congratulations all the time. The public is not "shocked" by this. If they are then Spain has gone WOKE. Put things in perspective and it is no big deal. Nothing really happened. Nothing sexual. She gets her "space" invaded all the time, especially on the field. :)
I thought a kiss on each cheek was a greeting. Although they weren't greeting but celebrating.

In this day age just the perception or possibility one could be accused of poor behavior should be enough to prevent most individuals from acting on their impulses. I've worked in places when working around woman all of the sudden most were behaving unusually well and that's because nobody wants that label of a sexual harasser or pevert. Or be disciplined, suspended, fired or sued. And that's because at least once year the rules were laid out and people were suspended just for using poor language in the presence of a woman.

I don’t think I have seen a bride being kissed on the mouth. Canadian custom is to kiss her on the cheek.

I think I would prefer the old-fashioned hug, especially if I was the last person to kiss her on the cheek. You don't know where the lips of those 'others' might have been, and I don't think I would want to know.

But giving a hug might look a bit awkward, as I would be conscious of not wanting to crease her wedding dress. If she was to then say to me ,"No... no hugs, I want you to kiss me on the cheek". I might jokingly say, with a smile, "Oh go on them, if you insist" :)

As hollydolly stated, it depends on the culture and the exuberance of the moment. Granted this official's kiss was "on the lips". This is the same culture, which has the 'running of the bulls' and the public maiming and killing of animals in the ring. And this team did just win the World Cup Championship.
Also, I believe the woman being kissed may have felt ill at ease over the kiss, and rightly so, but I also believe she will not be traumatized by the kiss for the rest of her life.
The kiss was done in a soccer stadium before thousands of screaming fans. It was not done on a Baptist church alter where a handshake and given an embossed scroll would be more appropriate.
It happened. All are red faced. And tomorrow is another day.

If the English men's side could win the world cup, I would kiss their butts or they could kiss mine. For the country, of course.
Anyway, turned the News off as too much of this bloated subject and misery all round.

From what I read about this photo a few years ago, she wasn't very impressed with what I was led to believe was an uninvited kiss. When you look at the woman's somewhat contorted body, it looks even more like an assault.

She looks as though she's in a headlock. Nothing very mutual going on there.

When I saw that I figured he was just so excited and happy. But he should have tempered that excitement. The initial news report didn't mention that he had done it to the other girls.

IMO he didn't kiss her because of his position it was spur of the moment ,excited at the win, that comes down to a talked about news article. 30 years from now or less no one will remember this.

Will this alter how he reacts in the future. No doubt, & isn't that what the hope is by those offended by his action? Ah for the good old days when the thrill of victory was not subject to scrutinizing every detail of who did what.

I can’t allow myself to be engaged too much in vicarious upset and disgust when I don’t truly know what was in the minds of both when this incident happened. Especially when the thoughts and feelings of the two involved could become distorted by the media, and by some people who might be around them. They need to be allowed to think this through themselves, without influence. To process their thoughts independently, so they can figure out what it all truly meant to them.

Our culture is a bit different here in the U.S. I don’t think I would be OK with a guy giving me a kiss on the lips.
Well the Yanks and Canadian Troops were not backward in coming forward in the UK during the war. We only had one bedroom, and playing in the dark with my toy searchlight seemed to upset them.

They will never reach parity with the men's game in my opinion, having compared the two games and the physical input. In fact I doubt any female team or player would get in any English Div. Entertaining, yes, but how soon before that wears off.

I'm not going to pretend that *I* watch women's football, because I don't. I do support my team, and watch them every week, but women's football hasn't clicked with me. On the other hand, it's obvious and clear that it's making huge steps forward. Maybe the answer isn't parity, but instead mixed sex teams. Yikes! And surely it can only be a matter of time before we have a woman manage a men's team in the English Premier League?

From what I can discern, this is now bigger than the event. Women from all over in Spain are beginning to speak up about their "me too" movement. I suspect this is the beginning of a larger self-examination of the "tactile" Spanish culture. Specific to this story, it's just getting bigger and bigger. But I have to say, their FA have handled it badly, and always seem to be on the back foot. This is all the more sad that the event at which this took place was Spain winning the World Cup. Their glory has been stolen, which is a shame.

I for one, don't care! There seems to be many folks around that really need to get a life if they think this is an issue.

It's about as important and "earth shaking" as the topic how to name bathrooms so as not to offend anybody! GEE!

It's hard to understand the anger of another group. It's easier to see it as overreaction on the part of the offended.

Not specific to this story
