How long does it take you to get ready for bed ?

For me it' s a long yet short process...in that I'm a night owl as you all already know, but then there comes a time when I realise it's unwise to try and stay up any longer.. that culd be 1 or 2, or even 3am.. so then I take a sleeping pill.. and close the blinds, ensure the doors are all locked, and downstairs lights and electrics are off...then come up.. brush my teeth.,tie my hair up..... turn on the bedside lamp.. then come back here onto the forum until the Meds kick in which takes about 30 minutes .. and I go immediately to bed .. 🥱🥱 fortunately this is an en-suite office room.. so just through the door behind me is my bed... about 6 steps...
1 step from my office to my bed. Work at home from my bedroom.

I would say about 15-20 minutes; it mostly involves shutting the lights, taking a glass of water up to my room, changing, washing up, and cleaning teeth. I will probably start wearing socks to bed in the winter.

If I don't fall asleep right away, I lay in bed and just think about things. If I really can't fall asleep (one hour later), I will get up and read a book or go through my journal until I fall asleep. I have never taken sleeping pills or plan to.

I do enjoy just laying there sometimes, solving the worlds' problems (haha). I know that even if I might not sleep that night, I will catch up on my sleep during the day, and that is comforting (but I rarely nap during the day once I am up!).

Night owl here. I never go to bed before midnight; often it's 2 a.m. when I crawl into bed.

I don't sleep well. I have nightmares, I toss-and-turn, whatever part of my body I'm sleeping on starts hurting. I've tried both over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids. The OTC ones don't work; the prescription ones leave me foggy in the a.m.

I get between 4-6 hours of sleep usually. It seems to be enough and if it isn't, I take a nap during the day. If I sleep for 8 hours without getting up, I'm so stiff I can hardly move.

This lifestyle doesn't seem to hurt me, though.

As for getting ready to go to bed, I can think of a dozen things that I need to do first. That takes forever.

Well, right after midnight, it's about 15 minutes in the bathroom, pull the covers off, hop in bed, and depending how tired I am, I nod off in about 10 minutes.
The thing is I have to be tired. If I took a nap, at 11 PM I'm wide awake, raring to go. Then it's 2 or 3 AM before I could get to sleep. That used to be my old routine- going to bed at 3AM getting up @9. But, now, I need more sleep.

I don't have to "get ready for bed", literally.
I realized about 8 or 9 years ago that it's not good for my body for me to sleep in beds. Partly because due to A-fib, having my head elevated was better for my heart. Another reason which really sealed it for me was that I'd wake up with a tight, slightly achy feeling from the hip down on whatever side I slept on.

So I've been sleeping in my rocker-recliner which is a little wider than normal. Also, I no longer wear night clothes. I wear loose fitting, comfortable dresses or skirts and tops (sans underwear...hope that's not TMI), but for comfort sake and because certain areas have to breathe sometimes. :D After reading and hearing about so many people who've had to evacuate with only a few minutes notice, I started doing that in case I ever have leave the house in a hurry.

Add to that, I usually fall asleep unbeknownst to myself while doing something, like watching T.V. or even playing a game.

All day, I am counting the minutes until I can sleep again. I don't sleep well anymore, have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep. Add to that this crazy stay up all night and then sleep the morning and part of the afternoon. It is enough to make anyone go nuts.

When I do wake in the afternoon, it takes me hours to get going. When I think I like might to go out it is after dark or everything is closed. I don't drive well at night so most all of the time I stay home.

I do the all the same things as others, pups out one last time, brush teeth, shower, put on clean pjs, adjust thermostate, check the doors and make sure everything in the kitchen is turned off or unplugged. Tell the dogs it is night, night and they run to the bedroom and take their positions. LOL

By the time I’ve washed my face, applied various lotions, brushed teeth, flossed, and water pick, it’s 7:30 and time to put my nightgown on. That took 20+ minutes. Then I prep the coffee for the morning. Throughout the evening I have to use various eye drops. Go to bed at 11:15, toss & turn, sleep for 15 minutes and then more toss & turn. Too bad that didn’t count as exercise. Wake up again at two for more tossing & turning. I can’t sleep without a heating pad.

if I took a Nap in the middle of the afternoon... I would be up until 4am... that's the truth... my body seems to need to be awake at least 12 hours before I can sleep again

Take dogs out.

Pick up dogs’ water bowl (I have two senior dogs who’ll pee inside if they have access to water all night.

Fold throws, fluff cushions, return remotes to holder, pick up shoes or other personals and put away.

Lock up house and turn off all lights

Bathroom, Brush teeth.

Get in bed and play on phone till I get tired, usually 20-30 minutes. (Ron watches TV)

I guess all that takes about 20 minutes, depending on how long I’m walking the dogs.

I’m usually in bed by 9.30 or so. Even if I wanted to go to bed earlier, I wait till then so that the dogs don’t have more than 9 hours inside before their next potty break. The young one, Remy, could go much longer but my two seniors, they can’t.

I used to stay up until midnight Mon-Fri when I was watching Brian Williams's show on MSNBC'The 11th Hour{when he wasn't I didn't watch} He left the network 2 yrs ago, after that I changed my bedtime routine,I now go to bed around 10pm. It usually takes me 5-10min to brush my teeth, put lotion on my face, turn off bedrm light Some mornings I wake up at 4pm go to bathroom try to go back to sleep,I'm usually up around 6am

Always same routine. Around 6pm I go up, makeup off, shower, into nightclothes, put out my outfit etc for tomorrow.
Then down for dinner, watch TV together . Up about 10pm, decaff tea, brush teeth, settle to read, doze off, wake briefly, settle down finally about 11pm.
It's a whole gradual winding down process that begins at 6pm. I wake by 6a.m. and a gradual winding up begins. My husband brings tea, then I begin my day about 7a.m. Reading is slotted in throughout.

10 minutes maybe. Same routine every night. Turn off tv at 10 pm, go in kitchen and take out hearing aids and glasses, take a heart pill, go in bedroom and turn on humidifier, come back to dining room and my wife puts in my eye drops and I put a dry eye ointment in her eyes and then to bathroom and then off to bed.

It is the same every time. I have peripheral neuropathy so I have a routine. Get my medications ready, put my computer to sleep, turn most of the lights off, then lie down on my back.
At 9:45 I get up, take my meds, remove the cats, go to the bathroom, take my shoes and socks off, lie down on my back, and within 20 minutes I fall asleep.
I have nights that I only sleep for 4 hours. The next day I have fatigue bad. I nap about 2pm for an hour and my pain level goes up.

Less than 5 minutes. That is mostly the time required for the 2 computers that are powered on to slowly Shutdown. Note, I often pull out the AT&T router line first to make sure any running programs cannot communicate upon Shutdown with anything external. Most evenings don't watch any TV, that is OTA since I have not had cable for about 3 decades.

Then turn power off to any devices, open upstairs windows if necessary, and shut off lights. Push a couple foam earplugs in my ears.

I don't fall asleep easily, however such usually is less than 15 minutes. Average time might be 10pm and get 7 hours of sleep over 8 hours. Most mornings am awake at dawn and since am retired, rise slowly. Also a good time for an outdoor landscape and nature photographer to rise out in the field.

Go upstairs, brush my teeth, lay out clothes for morning, pull my shorts off, get in bed, that takes maybe ten minutes. Then I read for an hour or until I fall asleep.

About 30 minutes so I start at 7:30. Floss, brush, water pic my teeth. Then take night time meds, top up the water in my CPAP, put the dog to bed, take a quick shower and then read a very little before mask on and lights out.

I wonder if anyone else takes anything regularly for sleep. I’m taking 150 mg of Trazodone and 500 mg Magnesium citrate. Sometimes I still take a couple Melatonin gummies but honestly I’ve never noticed any difference from those. But since taking the other two I always sleep at least 7 hours and often as many as 9. I still get up by 6 in the morning.

Routine is
turn off t v, turn off bedroom light, lay down, fall asleep in about two minutes. Wake up 7 or 8 hours later.
