Marilyn Monroe's old house may be demolished by a developer. The house last sold for 8.5 million dollars. She purchased it for $77,000

The only home Marilyn Monroe ever owned, and where she died, faces demolition

This isn't the first Monroe home to be demolished. Another home was demolished for condos in 2015

Marilyn Monroe home destruction in Valley Village prompts lawsuit

Too bad these homes are historical in more ways than one. Along with the celebrity association it gives a glimpse into architectural history. And old buildings that stand the test of time should get special consideration.

Another era disappearing.

Out with the old. In with the new. Another generation from now no one will know who Marilyn was. Each generation deserves its turn and its memories. Got to make room for everyone. Each in their own time.

Nothing affordable will be built there. But if more housing is on the place, is that a good thing? I don't know.

Looking at the pictures, I hope a salvage company will be there first to get windows, doors, beams, tiles, bricks and whatever else can be used. Too much goes into the landfill.

Exactly, Repurpose. Especially that wood. Sometimes it can take years and several coats of finish including the process of sanding the wood to get the effect and condition one sees in the pictures of the beams, joists etc.

The majority of non-boomers have no idea who she was. Are there other houses that have been chosen to maintain the style. How unique is it?

It’s only when I’m listening to podcasts and young people who have no concept of our media memories, I realize these may just be for us who were there. It’s just history and may not be important enough to dwell on.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding her death from what I have read. I guess it's no use digging up old memories or conspiracy theories, but sometimes it's fun to play "what if" games with your brain.

In a way, Marilyn and her life can be included in our history and as the story line goes when a country begins tearing down its history, there is no more country without its history.

Would we want to see the "Rat Pack" be scratched from the history books? I would have given my left pinky finger (well, maybe just the fingernail) to spend one night with those guys.

I disagree that M. M. will be forgotten. Her posters are still selling rather well. Her S .E. X. kitten image is now part of Americana. That said, I doubt where she died is hallowed ground. Having an L. A. celebrity die of an overdose is not an unheard of thing. Still, her death does reduce the value of the house. Who wants their home as a stop on a lurid bus tour, or with the occasional obsessed fan breaking in? I think the current owner of the house has the say in what happens to the place, rather than a movie star's death.

The value has gone up last selling for 8 million dollars topping a sale a few years earlier for 7 million dollars. MM paid $77,000 which is $709,000 today.

This would make a good part time residence for a millionaire to conduct business and/or throw parties, dinners etc.

Sad in the memories in invokes for me. Remember driving to a motorcycle race with my bike in the back of the truck. Can still see the handlebars in the rear-view mirror when the announcement came over my transistor radio on the seat of the truck.

Yeah, I guess the old must make way for the new. But it still is sad for me to read. Like a part of my past is forever gone.

I do not .... and never did understand hero worship. She was a horrible singer, not much of an actress, and let's face it her reputation was not what anyone here would want for their daughter . Yes she was pretty, when she could control her weight but I just do not get the worship.

Now about the house ... judging from the photos posted , I do like it ... But not 8 million dollars worth ;)
