Baby boomers are the troubling new face of drug overdoses

Medical marijuana, at least in NYState, and I would imagine all states, is Private Pay, not insurance of any kind.

As always I went for a walk this morning. When I returned to the entrance of my apartment, there were 3 "contractor type" of men vaping. Man that cloud of smoke was something to see. It's a drug that is totally supported by my government who seems to be laughing all the way to the bank while the young generation are well on their way to a life of drug addiction.

Pills, alcohol, cigarettes and vaping! A land full of druggies!
Such a shame to see. It’s so sad to see that our government condones this kind of degeneracy!

If Baby Boomers are the new face of drug overdoses, why am I seeing only young faces laying all over the sidewalks getting Narcan shot up their young noses?
My brother daughter came back from the States this month with her two young children, as she was worried they were all going to get shot. Feel sorry for her husband left behind.

I am for legalizing Marijuana for use for a host of medical conditions. Pain being a major one. No one has died from the physical chemicals in Marijuana. I will begin the process of obtaining my Missouri Medical Marijuana license very soon. It takes about 2 months. I have a Zoom meeting with a Doctor who approves or not. My issue is pain relief from Peripheral Neuropathy. I really helps!

No surprise about the statistics. During the opioid crisis doctors handed out pain scrips like they were candy on Halloween. When the danger became known and restrictions tightened drastically, the addicts moved to street drugs. Completely predictable.

I see far more older (over 50) drug and alcohol street addicts than younger (under 30) ones. No telling how many have mental health issues and find self medicating with street drugs preferable to taking prescribed ones

As for gateway drugs, I watch my toddler grandson spin around until he staggers with dizziness. After his brain reorients, he laughs and does it again. The attraction to getting high seems to be inborn; all able-bodied children go through this phase.

Marijuana in various incarnation - particularly edibles - are a godsend to many who suffer from chronic pain. They turn down Rx meds in favor of pot because side effects are fewer.

I think you meant legalizing, yeah? (instead of illegalizing)

A lot of medical insurance companies still categorize medical marijuana as "experimental" despite tons of data showing it is a safe and effective treatment, and that's why they don't cover the cost.

You mentioned earlier how your mom died from an accidental overdose of Phenobarbital. My mom was prescribed Fentanyl patches for her pain, and passed out almost immediately after I applied the first patch over her lower back (I was taking care of her at the time). I had to call 911.

I pulled the freaking patch off her first, though. I think if I hadn't, I'd have lost her. An ambulance transported her to the hospital and she made it ok, but she was out of it the rest of that day.

Obviously some people can handle it. My mom wasn't one of them.

Still working on a prescription from late 2019 of pain pills. They seem to have become less effective so I will take a whole one rather than 1/2. I only take it at night if ibuprofen is not enough and I can not sleep. And quite rarely as over half the bottle of 25 is left. But it is handy when I have greatly overdone it with a project or dinged myself up in some way.

These days you can't get pain pills unless you are on deaths edge!

My neighbour, a few years ago, looked like he was on the decline. I hadn't seen him for a long time and when I did catch up, he looked very well. I said he looked like he had put on weight and was walking much better, what was his secret, and he said :: Medical Marijuana. He got approval from the health department and takes a couple of drops of it on his tongue twice a day.

My Dad was in the final throes of Parkinsons. They were giving him liquid morphine mixed with ginger beer whenever he needed it. This went on for three days and the long weekend was coming up, so the nursing home gave us another prescription for morphine to see him through. I knew he was waiting for my mother's birthday which was the 12th of April and he died the day after on the 13th. 😪😪

Sit down for this one! My nephew is almost 50 years old and lives in my brother's basement. He refuses to work, sits all day and watches TV. This is interesting! He drinks 39 cans of pop each week and he also drinks plenty of "energy" drinks. My nurse girlfriend says that an energy drink is the same as 6 cups of coffee. She says energy drinks are for those who are very active but not for those who just sit around.

The question is this: is he going to have a heart attack or is he going to commit suicide?

In 2001 the joint commission for hospital accreditation in the united states stated the patients must be asked about their pain…and treated for it. Before that time you could see a patient for any issue and only address pain if the patient stated they were having pain. They call it “the fifth vital sign”. I call it the start of the epidemic.

Like Seattle? That's on west. Spokane on east.
Yes Seattle area, a two hour inland drive from the sea.

Fatal shootings in Seattle are up 20% year over year, with 18 people dead of gunshot wounds in the first five months of 2023 compared to 15 deaths during the same period last year.
