I've been invited for my fifth jab

I really am in a dilemma. I have been invited for my flu jab and next COVID jab.
I am fine about having the flu one, but after last year I am so frightened of another COVID jab.
After the fourth jab I couldn't eat, got pains all over my body as well as an expected sore arm. It was as if my body went into an alarm mode and I just got one thing after another, never felt properly well since.

I know it's my decision. On balance I think surely I have enough resistance built up, especially as I actually had COVID and recovered, deaths are few, variants may be easier spread but are probably no more serious. I don't think I will have it.

So will you have your fifth?

It is your decision to make. You know your own body and you should trust your instinct.

I had my fifth jab (Covid + flu) before the beginning of the Southern Hemisphere Winter this year and had no ill effect. I got through the Winter without illness of any kind but for the last 2 and a bit weeks I have had the worst cold that I can remember. Really nasty. Snotty nose, headache, hacking cough and fatigue. Developed into bronchitis judging by the wheezing going on in the left lung. No elevated temperature. It wasn't Covid because I kept testing using a rapid antigen test.

I didn't see the doctor but eventually had to get some non prescription meds from the pharmacist to ease the symptoms. Next time this happens I won't tough it out so long before getting some help and advice.

That's awful, oh such misery. Colds and flu can be the worst. I do hope you are better now - don't overdo things.

Personally myself,
I don't see it as a 4th or 5th.
So I don't decide it that way.

Each one is a vaccine, to decide whether to get or not.
They are different.
Particularly these. The present covid vax is not a repeat of the others.

I don't count how many (different) flu jabs (or how many vaccines) I have had, over the years.

I make my own decision, each time a vaccine is available, whether to get that one, based on numerous factors.
Not including how many there were for related illnesses that were available in the past.

Of course any bad experiences with any of them may influence my decisions.
But non identical ones are not identical.
So I don't disregard that part of the facts.

For general information;

The present updated covid Vax is not actually a "booster" by the way.

It does Not contain what the original series had, or what the previous one(s) had,
And the present covid Vax is not one of a series. It is a stand alone vax.

I understand similarities that others might use to make their decisions.
I am just sharing my info and my viewpoint.

The best thing you have done is listen to your body and gut instinct. I haven't had the first one. Long story less long. I got the flu jab many years ago..over 30 years. I got very ill from the jab. I vowed never to take it again. What ever happened to the common cold?

The only reaction I had to a Covid jab was from the first one. I felt mildly "fluey" for a day. I've had all the rest with no problems.

When we lived overseas, I had to get lots of immunizations and keep up on the shots while we were there.

A cholera shot every six months laid me out for days. The typhus, Typhoid and yellow fever ones weren't any fun, either.

I understand. Many years ago I took the flu jab and felt very great fatigue for weeks. I didn't take it again until after the covid pandemic. Then I decided out of pure terror that I couldn't see risk flu on top of covid.
I actually found the flu jab didn't cause me much problem this time but the fourth COVID jab made me really unwell for months.
It's truly difficult to know what to do.

I am not a conspiracy theorist. I've tried just to be sensible. But I find myself now wondering if I have done the right things, as my health is so bad after taking all the jobs recommended. Mentally I am so low and anxious.

Could we please agree to stop using the term "JAB" ? Its an injection and a minor one at that. Over and done in 2 minutes, once you roll up your sleeve. And yes, both myself and my Wife will be getting both the newest Covid vaccination and the influenza vaccination too. JimB.
Well, it may be over in a moment but I was truly in pain and trouble for two months afterwards. For the first few days I was nauseous, couldn't eat properly. Abdominal and other pains sent me in panic to the doctor. It was like my body went into upheaval and it was thoroughly scary. Eventually it did settle.

Of course that may not happen with another injection. But I am afraid it could and I am already quite unwell - I still have tinnitus and vertigo I am struggling with and awaiting tests. I can't risk adding to my worries.

I'm with you. Before holidaying overseas in 2000 (Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Kenya) Hubby and I had a slew of vaccinations for diseases that are not common in Australia. Yellow fever was one, and for added caution, we included meningitis. We also had meds to take in Kenya to guard against malaria.

I go in next week for the required six month blood work. I am hoping they have the new covid vax in. I will also get my flu shot. I have never had a problem other than tenderess at the injection sites. I prefer to get everything done at once when I can. Wish they could do it all but I will still have to go elsewhere for yearly routine scans and xrays and to get new glasses.

Maybe your body is telling you something Rose. This isn't a one size fits all world.

If you're having a bad reaction to it then maybe you shouldn't. You have a right to say no. Don't let the docs give you this crap about the reaction being worse than the Covid. Do what's best for you.

I have been lucky and not had a severe reaction to it so I will be getting my 5th this year cuz of my work. I have had Covid twice. The second round was 4 months after the first infection. Never got any Paxlovid the second time. Ended up going by ambulance on day 7 of my isolation to the hospital cuz of the congestion but wasn't hospitalized. I was home in an hr and a half.

Take care of yourself.

Does it worry you getting the Covid jab or not getting it? With the problems you have had - you may want to go with your gut instinct.

Sounds like you had a bad reaction to it with having to go to the hospital???

I fear the side effects of the vaccine, a valid fear after my last experience, yet I don't wish to die of covid!
It's a difficult decision. I shall take the flu jab, then decide.

Not to the vaccine. I had to go cuz I had gotten Covid. The vaccine doesn't keep you from getting it. It just keeps you from having to be admitted into the hospital. I had a COPD exacerbation from the congestion caused by the Covid.
Very frightening I bet.
