This forum is making a narcissist out of me, and it has to stop!

I joined as a wide eyed innocent, eager to have great discussions with my peers. So what happened in the meantime? I am starting to write more and more about myself. What's worse, I check every five minutes if there has been a "like," "hug," or "love" added to one of my profound and wise observations. It's got to stop! So, for a day, ignore my posts or, if you can't, find a "snarky" or "man you're a bore" emoji on the internet to help with the cure! Thank you!

@ Old Salt, I am not on this site daily, I go in spurts, even to the
point of if I left no one would notice, or if I returned no one would
notice lol, but my friends will always do both ;):) Also it is sometimes
a good thing to take a week or so off and come back with a BANG.

Not at all ...gerroutta here.. it's no different to being in the pub or somewhere social with your friends.. and getting a response from them when you've made a comment .. a laugh,a smile.. a retort... you'd be a bit put out if you didn't get that in the company of your friends in real life.... only this is the Internet way..

Carry on Sailor... 🫡

Don't post for a bit. I'm an "on and off" poster and i doubt if anyone even notices whether I post or not. My life doesn't revolve around this site or any other.

I suppose it depends on whether you're surrounded with folks to chat with in your daily life. If I did manage to be in a somewhat isolated position, I'd probably depend more on computer acquaintances. That isn't the case for me at present but
there's other sites to pop in on if you wish a change and you know that you'll always be welcomed back whenever the spirit moves you.

You are realizing that it is all about you. IMO That is the truth. No matter how you slice it, it will always be about you. It is for me, and every living thing I have ever encountered! :) I forgot to mention that along with it being all about you, remember the mood swings that go on throughout the day.

Careful what you wish for, Old Salt. I just had a huge battle royal with a neighbor, and I am still hot under the collar. But, you seem to be one of the good guys on my list.;)
Oh c'mon Lewkat - - - -a battle with neighbors. You're too nice a lady to make me even imagine you being angry. Besides, we're too old to get involved with stuff like that.

Having said that, I hope everything's resolved and there's "peace in the village".

Here's a hug from another old-timer. :)

You’re so darn cute.
You are far too brutally honest snd have far too much empathy to be narcissistic. You acknowledge what you think are faults and apologize if you think you’ve offended anyone. You aren’t a narcissist. Far from it.
You are just addicted to interacting with others since it’s enjoyable and there’s nothing wrong with that BUT I do get that obsessive component that sometimes comes with communicating on a forum.
You worry too much.

As usual it was tongue-in-cheek and for the pure fun of it. Even though there's a lot of truth in there as well! (y) I am way too caught up in checking for responses!

Not to worry, you haven't turned into a narcissist(one of the most over-used nouns on the internet), you've just joined the ranks of billions of people that are getting their dose of pleasure(think Pavlov's dogs) from Social Media. ;););)

Well, darn it, I thought there would be complete silence to my remarks and now I am being swamped. I have never seen so many "likes" "hugs" and "loves" in one single thread of mine! Which encourages my budding narcissism! All of you are incorrigible, you just don't listen, do you? So, all of you, consider yourself hugged and loved!

If you really want to change that checking for responses you can turn them off for awhile (in your profile setting). Just check the one "if someone quotes you".
Sorry, Paco, I tend to throw out something weird or idiotic once in a while without meaning it. Just for the fun of it! There is some truth ... re. checking far too often if anyone responds, but I love being in this forum and have no intention of stopping for even a day. Unless I am sick!

Dear Old Salt. So you've written an absolutely brilliant post and then sat back and waited for the applause and ... crickets...
Been there. So many times.

What I do is remind myself that there are thousands of silent lurkers reading this board every day and they all thought my post was awesome.

Thank you, @Rich, I no longer feel alone!

@Della So you noticed I was making fun of myself and of my reactions! I am not exactly proud of myself for writing something and then waiting for positive (I hope) comments, especially since I have been making unpleasant remarks about silly teens who would do anything to gain likes and followers! What's the difference here? A man my age should not be concerned if there's a single reply to a post, yet I am! I felt silly about it and made a joke! The only untruth in the post, I don't want to be ignored, even for one day! My ego can't handle it! And thanks for the pep talk!

Just wanted to add (and this might make you feel uncomfortable, men :)) hugs to men are included! I hug everything, women, men, kids, cats, dogs! If it moves I hug it! Thank God, nobody took me to court during my lifetime!
