This is what worries me. That Canada could have made such a mistake in the first place??? I mean isn't anybody thinking there? Don't they know history?Just another example of why history must be taught and not forgotten.
What I want to know is how old were the Canadian politicians that invited him to their proceedings. Was it someone in their 20s? The only thing those politicians had to remember that Russia was ally during World War II so what was the purpose using a WWII German veteran who fought against Russia serve?
And those SS units committed attrocities/war crimes across the board including executing allied prisoners of war. Wth we're they thinking.
The SS units tended to be hand picked because they demanded a little more loyalty and expected to do a little more than the average soldier wink wink Maybe he didn't actually fire/execute on an unarmed pow or civilian but the stuff those units did it would've been hard to ignore or forget.I don't know every detail, but he was probably drafted and had no choice, similar to Vietnam vets, some who were vilified upon returning home.
Correction. It was not "Canadian politicians " who invited this man to attend Parliament. It was the Speaker, who invited this man, who lives in the ryding that the Speaker represents. The Speaker has apologized, and RESIGNED his position in Parliament. The Prime Minister has also apologized in the house, and on national TV.Just another example of why history must be taught and not forgotten.

"Canada " did not make this error. It was one person, the Speaker of the House of Commons who invited this man to attend the ceremony. No blame should attach to "Canada ". The Speaker has resigned his position, and made a full and contrite apology to the House. The Prime Minister has also apologized to the House, and to the nation. An error in judgement, by one person. Well said. The House will select a new Speaker from the 341 Members in Parliament within the next 2 weeks. In the meantime, a temporary Speaker from the Bloc Quebecoise is in the chair, a Mister Plomondon. The Members of the House will vote to select the new Speaker who must be a M.P. him/her self.Rota, the Commons speaker, said that he alone was responsible for inviting Hunka, who lives in the area he represents, implying that neither Zelenskyy nor Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau knew about it.
“I particularly want to extend my apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world,” the speaker said in a statement. “I accept full responsibility for my actions."
If he's not extradited. Poland is already getting charges ready and/or see if they can do it. I think a 90 something year old ex concentration camp was arrested or prosecuted this summer. So he should've known to keep a low profile out of sight out of mind. Now that they have blown this guy's cover, he will have to change his name and move to the Northwest Territories.
So because one Canadian person made a huge mistake, we are all stupid? Really! This is what worries me. That Canada could have made such a mistake in the first place??? I mean isn't anybody thinking there? Don't they know history?
I know what you mean, but it was more than one person. So because one Canadian person made a huge mistake, we are all stupid? Really!
We don't all check the backgrounds of everyone we meet.I know what you mean, but it was more than one person.
Standing ovation:
Ah well, we all make mistakes.
True but if they knew he was a World War II veteran who fought against Russia that's about all the background information that was needed being Russia was a ally of the US, UK, Canada etc. Alarms, flags etc should've gone off in someone's head if they knew anything about World War II.We don't all check the backgrounds of everyone we meet.
