Woman Sues Disney Over Painful Wedgie.

I'd agree, but if you read the article, she was actually badly injured, and she's only asking for $50,000, apparently.

"McGuinness was hospitalized for “permanent bodily injury” and “v*g*nal lacerations,” it added. The complaint further stated that her bowel protruded “through her abdominal wall” in a hernia."

Bummer. Not that I would get on a ride that had a 5-story drop.

I was never a thrill ride person.
If it makes me feel like I'm losing control then I'm not interested.

Roller coasters, log flumes, I guess water park slides (didn't have them when I was kid) are all no-nos to me. Why? Because I don't know how to react in real time to the danger the way that Thrill Riders instinctively do.

The Scrambler was about as action packed as I get.1000001511.jpg

I used to ride "Der Stuka" at Wet 'n Wild and *everybody* got a wedgie on that water slide. It was a guarantee. I got to the bottom one time and couldn't sit up. The attendant was saying "Get up! Get up!" and I couldn't.....my back had locked up and I couldn't bend it. I was just laying there in the trough, stiff as a board.

I also fractured my tailbone on a waterside at a waterpark in Panama City. It never occurred to me to sue the waterpark. Hell, I coulda got rich!

I still like waterparks, but the extreme rides are in the past for me.

I once had a neighbour who cracked a rib going down a Water Park slide.

You should watch a documentary (I think you can find it on YouTube) called "Action Park" about a defunct waterpark in New Jersey by that name. The park was often referred to as "Class Action Park" as it was considered the most dangerous water park in the country. Rides were designed and built with a complete disregard for safety.

It's incredible what the owner got by with for years with unsafe rides, untrained teenage employees who spent most of their time getting high, and lots and lots of injuries.

If I remember correctly, the local municipality sued the park because their ambulances were getting tied up with carting customers off to the hospital.

She got injured I get that. But I'd be curious to know what her health and fitness was prior. And what was her clothing at the time. Is there a warning don't wear something like that now.

A hernia and scarring are legitimate injuries so her injuries/recovery should be paid for. A sum pain & suffering money. Is there something missing from the story

Some possible scenarios that may occur are:

Life is a risk ... you don't know what will happen from one day to the next. I'm sure the Florida gentleman didn't think he'd ever be bitten by rabid animal.

Remember the woman who sued McDonalds being served hot coffee ordered through the drive-thru & spilled it on herself?

When you go to someplace & participate in activities that have an inherent risk like at an amusement park, you should understand you could get hurt. I would think a person should realize that. Unless something is so egregious that happens & common sense says it was, then I can understand a possible suit.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that society has just gotten sue happy?

Reading the headline, I was laughing and had the instant reaction of "another one looking for a payout". Then I clicked the link and read the story.......

Those injuries are indeed, beyond the pale. This wasn't about a wedgy (and honestly, it's heinous they should have used that headline). The woman had severe internal injuries. A thrill ride is considered a risk, but when you're at a park, it's all about the illusion of risk. What happened to her was...... wow.

I remember back when I was 13 and rode the Big Dipper at Luna Park here in Sydney. All went well on the slow accent., but on the decent it speeded up, everyone was screaming and my bra straps suddenly broke. I was so embarrassed and had to wear my cardigan for the rest of the day. Haven't been back since.

I agree that the headline was written to make the lawsuit seem frivolous, but the actual harm to the slide user was real. And $50,000 is not a huge sum, when it comes to medical costs. By the time the woman pays her medical bills, she's not going to be buying estates on the Riviera.

I had never been on a water slide in my life until I was 70! It was a 3 story one, and when I hit the water I indeed got a water wedgie:(. I just laughed it off.

I fractured my tailbone as a child and because of that would never dream of going on any of these types of rides. At Disneyland or Disneyworld there are many safer rides to choose from.

Did you read the article at all? A wedgy was the very last thing she was concerned about.

Yes I did, She was badly injured. I just related an experience I had.
I do feel sorry for the lady.
