Do deep discussions interest you?

I read about that study. Here's the article. Chocolate’s Effects on Women's Interest in Sex

I think the part quoted below is particularly important for a man to read if he's even thinking about trying to separate his woman from chocolate. Just a note of caution. 😲

"The first thing to realize (otherwise, nothing that follows will make sense) is that chocolate is like a drug. Chocolate is an ancient food, whose name is derived from the Nahuatl word cacahuatl. The Mayo-Chinchipe people cultivated cacao 5,300 years ago in Central America. For some religions, cocoa was considered to be of divine origin and gifted by the gods.

In 1648, according to the diary of English Jesuit Thomas Gage, the women of Chiapas Real arranged for the murder of a certain bishop who forbade them to drink chocolate during mass. In an ironic twist, the pontiff was ultimately found murdered after someone had added poison to his daily cup of chocolate. Second point: Women love chocolate."

Someone's fundamental beliefs directly affect how they deal with others and function in the world. That doesn't mean that they're not open-minded, are unwilling to understand, or can't or won't compromise with someone else whose beliefs differ from their own.

Having differing beliefs doesn't mean you can't respect someone regardless of their beliefs or even get along. It depends on just how different those beliefs are. It becomes much more problematic if you're in conflict with each other over a particular matter. If you're rowing in completely different directions, you won't get anywhere. Try as you might, sometimes you just have to abandon ship and paddle your own boat. I agree that long, revealing conversations certainly help, but whether it's a Rolex, a Timex, or a cuckoo clock, it doesn't matter how much you wind it if the battery is dead.

Gee, are we having a deep discussion? 😊😉
All very good points (Well, except for the watch comment, since you don't wind a battery powered watch), but I get the point you were making nonetheless. And for the record, I would never try to separate a woman from her chocolate, although I may ask her to share it, especially if eating too much was going to reduce her libido. A bit self-serving on my part, I'll admit, but who knows, she may thank me later.

As for beliefs, I think mine have always been in a state of flux (Well, maybe not always). There was a time in my life that I thought I had things figured out, but thankfully in time I realized that I was wrong about a great many things. So as I forge ahead, I am a bit more humble in claiming I know anything. I do have beliefs, but I would never adduce that they are correct. The reality we perceive and interpret is often shaped by what we wish it to be.

With respect to paddling boats, I think sometimes it can save a lot of effort if the current is taking you in the direction you desire to go, and if so, you can just relax, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Sometimes when you're busy rowing, it's hard to see where you're going. I think that's why they invented sailboats, but it's just an assumption on my part.

...... and yes, Lady Bella, we are having a deep discussion. Will it reveal anything of importance? Perhaps, but that would have to be a subjective conclusion only you could make.

Yes I do.........................................................................................................................................
Wait...what?! That wasn't deep enough? 😂
Seriously...I love discussions about music (of course) and paranormal stuff. I also like discussions about the intricacies of relationships.

Not sure I could even engage in real time a live deep discussion with anyone any more. Well, it doesn't happen often.
Finding I need more time to gather my thoughts, weighed one against the other from a lifetime of learning and experience.
More often than not, I think of something truly relevant, long after the fact.

Isn't it amazing how most of the "easy" decisions made in youth are actually quite complex? By the time it occurs to you, you're mostly dead.

IDK. There are certain subjects I am tired of discussing, like a woman's right to choose. To those who disagree, I merely shrug and say "F you." End of discussion. Unworthy, pathetic "opponent." No use wasting precious oxygen.

I watch a lot of Dateline and I would love to get Josh, Andrea and Keith together and listen to them talk about the behind the scenes moments of making the show. I'm sure there must be funny things they had to cut as well as some murderers so horrible they had nightmares about them.

Highly educated and knowledgeable science and math persons, unless they have a reason to, are not going to have much patience discussing complexities for hours with those with such limited educations and knowledge that they then spend most of whatever time explaining basics. Those that are capable of doing so are usually educators, especially college level professors and technology gurus. Same futile limitations trying to explain and or argue complexities on the web with those with far less knowledge.

In any case, most will probably just refer a person to their published articles in books and professional journals as that is where they have taken time to efficiently craft explanations. Just talking to such persons informally beyond modest brief levels, is likely going to be beyond their ability to communicate effectively. Now if one is part of a science, research, or product team, a guru may create a presentation made for whatever audience.

Ted talks is an example of how such experts in today's era beyond books over a wide range of subjects beyond science are explaining and communicating complexities to the general public. If some ordinary person thinks they would like to talk to such people, they ought first make an effort to read and or watch some of such new media.

I'm not too fond of threads that erect a soapbox, climb upon it, and start shouting to draw a crowd of like-minded... with apparently the sole intent of beating down any opposition, if possible forcing any nail who dares to stick his head up to recite the Party Line and recant his own opinion before lifting the boot from his neck. Then celebrate this as justice.

There is far too much of this going on in the world already.

Edit: Sorry, I'm not feeling too well today and some of the heat I'm seeing disturbs me. That's my problem, nobody else's.

But, but, but.... I've done my own research. :D

Here is a couple of similar Ted Talk well crafted deep subjects examples presented for a general audience.

Thanks, I like TED Talks, I may need these as a backup for when I'm on the treadmill, if there' nothing on Netflix.

I like to talk with my son about everything in life, no subject is off the table.
All three of my kids are always good for interesting often deep discussions and have been since their teens. When i was working on my BA while in my late 40s my two then teenaged boys were better versed in some of the psych material (from their own reading), had more interesting insights than most of my college age classmates.

My daughter by 12 was constantly surprising us with not only her academic understanding but her cultural literacy about books, music and history.

If you could have a deep discussion for hours with any person?
1. what would you want to talk about?
2. Religion, Christian techniques for recruiting new members.
3. why now, religious/christian beliefs are being questioned for truth and accuracy causing a lack of church attendance and financial deficits? Did they become aware of church and religion misguidance or is this a dry spell for religion to regroup and form a greater belief than before?
4.Are churches dying from lack of. attendance and loss of revenue?
5. hallucinogenics .
