yep we have hawks attacking the doves on a horribly regular basis. Sometimes I get up in the morning and there's a heartbreaking amount of feather in the garden...and the poor Dove lost it's fight for life..we also have Wood pigeons as well...We don't get those (probably an ocean in the way?) but we used to have Mourning doves nest in the garden every year, often on a ledge under an overhang above the door). We also have hawks in the neighborhood. I did once walk out our back door where I witnessed an explosion of feathers. Eventually I realized that a hawk had just hit a mourning dove. I liked the sound of them, both their mournful call and the sound of their feathers on the wing.
We get visited every day by all sorts of birds, the sparrows, starlings, blue tits and great tits
aside from the above great tit... I posted a couple of pictures of the tiny Grey wagtail ..on another thread... just a little while ago.. However they weren't in my garden, they were by the canal building a nest above a waterfall.. have a look here...Not sure I've ever seen great tits in my gardenbut the bush tit gang makes the circuit through my garden regularly and has been nesting here at least the last few years when I've removed their nests at season's end from a climbing rose last year and Pride of Madeira Echium this year. I love how small they are and yet how secure they act in their numbers. They aren't bothered by hummingbirds one bit. Both seem wise enough not to waste any energy on the other when their foods source are so complimentary. Have you posted any pictures of great tits?

I’ve gotten like 3 separate blooming out of my lantanas this year. Very happyLantana is much appreciated around here as are the buddleas. We used to get more frittilaries than we do now. I like their coloring and how they appear whitewashed from below.
