One of the many birds who call my garden home...

Yep Pinks..a collared Dove.. I have lots visit my garden most days... (y)

We don't get those (probably an ocean in the way?) but we used to have Mourning doves nest in the garden every year, often on a ledge under an overhang above the door). We also have hawks in the neighborhood. I did once walk out our back door where I witnessed an explosion of feathers. Eventually I realized that a hawk had just hit a mourning dove. I liked the sound of them, both their mournful call and the sound of their feathers on the wing.

yep we have hawks attacking the doves on a horribly regular basis. Sometimes I get up in the morning and there's a heartbreaking amount of feather in the garden...and the poor Dove lost it's fight for life..we also have Wood pigeons as well...

The kites and the Kestrels come swooping down at great speed when they spot a mole or something somewhere in the garden...

We get visited every day by all sorts of birds, the sparrows, starlings, blue tits and great tits... jays... robins, ( we have them all year round) magpies..blackbirds and of course the Pigeons..

Not sure I've ever seen great tits in my garden ;) but the bush tit gang makes the circuit through my garden regularly and has been nesting here at least the last few years when I've removed their nests at season's end from a climbing rose last year and Pride of Madeira Echium this year. I love how small they are and yet how secure they act in their numbers. They aren't bothered by hummingbirds one bit. Both seem wise enough not to waste any energy on the other when their foods source are so complimentary. Have you posted any pictures of great tits? 😁

Okay, next up the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, California. The private garden begun by the wife of the man who owned all those walnut groves which were sold to developers as the town became incorporated and started absorbing agricultural land. But they retained three acres to house her succulent collection and began making the garden that is named after her in 1971 at the age of 63. She lived to 109 and remained active in the garden right up to the end. An inspirational story for any of us wondering if we still have time remaining for some pet project.

In addition to stunning plants, a pleasing lay out and a top notch plant nursery, I love this one for its policy of allowing dogs on leash.

Lantana is much appreciated around here as are the buddleas. We used to get more frittilaries than we do now. I like their coloring and how they appear whitewashed from below.
I’ve gotten like 3 separate blooming out of my lantanas this year. Very happy 😊
