Terrible storm in Scotland and UK

Horrendous in many areas of the UK but particularly Scotland. It must be so frightening for anyone near water.

One news item caught my eye, a dog walker in Scotland filmed the forest floor being ripped up. What is it with some people? Can they not give the dog walking a rest during even such emergency! Then to film it instead of getting away safely. There's always those who must get dramatic footage for their social media, no matter what. No common sense.

It's still raining here , has only stopped for an hour in the last 3 days ..

we saw all the dreadful flooding in Angus....wonder where those people are going to live, and if they'll be expected to return to those flooded homes..

Hope you didn't get any flooding to your house..

We've had torrential rain here in the London are for a solid 3 days.... and trees down... but as far as I'm aware little flooding to homes ...

Things must have been localised to a degree as we have (luckily) escaped unscathed . Everything is pretty soggy and covered with leaves, but little damage. Our fruit trees seem OK and both the polytunnel and small greenhouse are fine. We have been speaking to our daughters who live in the Midlands, and apart from heavy rain, they've had no problems.

..and yet here in the south we've had torrential rain fr 3 days......and there's been flooding in Devon...

Scottish language ? Not really. Scots speak English, with a Scottish accent. Same as some Americans who speak English with an accent if they grew up in Alabama, or Mississippi . JimB.

All Americans speak English with an accent as do Canadians......and we certainly do have a Scottish Language... Gaelic

Britain has barely been given a breather from the devastation from Storm Babet - but forecasters have already issued a fresh weather warning as a cold snap looks set to bite overnight into Monday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow 'be aware' warning for ice covering most of mainland Scotland as well as parts of northern England; the forecaster warns Brits to expect 'icy patches' and to take care to avoid 'slips and falls on icy surfaces'.

Storm Babet has left Britain after devastating parts of the country with heavy rain, gale force winds and floods that could take days to be abate.

The storm, which has now passed, has flooded out Britain's rail network; hundreds of flood warnings remain in effect across the country and Environment Agency bosses say that flooding is likely to last until Tuesday.

At least nine people are feared to have died during the storm, including a number of road crashes where the weather is believed to have played a part in the tragedy.

Have scientist in the UK been probing the past using, say, dendrochronology to determine whether precipitation events like this have occurred in recent centuries?

Yes, low temps are forecast for Monday morning. We already had some overnight frost - a week ago, before the storm. That came as a surprise.
