Sorry to hear of your situation, Theresa. Have you considered looking for an apartment with the money you're using to pay the motel? Just a thought I had... even at a very inexpensive $50 a night motel, that would be $1500/mo. Just thinking aloud... when you first posted, I thought you meant you were living out of your car or at a shelter. In any case, hope things get better for you soon.Being in a motel is considered homeless A lot of people don't know that.
Well, first of all, you have to have first, last security deposits. cleaning deposits. And not only that, apt. are more than my Social Security a month. So this lets me do it week to week and I can use some of my savings. But I understand what you're saying. If things were that easy, where I live, everything's going up, up, up. But I'm sure that's for everyone.Sorry to hear of your situation, Theresa. Have you considered looking for an apartment with the money you're using to pay the motel? Never experienced it thankfully... they say everyone is just 3 Pay cheques away from it.. and the USA has more homeless than any other western country sadly..Has anyone experienced homelessness as a senior? I am currently homeless. It's a long story. Never thought I would be homeless. in my life.
Motels are used as shelters @CallMeKate by local gov't. Something tells me @Theresa## is in one of those. Am I right, Theresa?
Yes, that's exactly what happened when he passed away. I lost the apartment because I wasn't on the lease anymore. I was his caregiver. When your companion died, Theresa, is that how you became homeless?
Ah, okay... understood. Well, mostly. My area doesn't do all those deposits and there are a lot of places for senior housing that work with residents according to their SS income. I hadn't realized that maybe all states/areas don't do that.Well, first of all, you have to have first, last security deposits. cleaning deposits. No, I have a microwave and a small refrigerator.I'm so glad you at least have a motel room. How long will you be permitted to stay?
I wish local gov't would just give you a damn apartment!
Do you have a hotplate? A small refrigerator? What do you do about food?

How long have you been homeless?..
I understand what you're saying. If your Social Security is low you would qualify for a supplement from SSI but you have to apply for it. It is based on your age. Also depending on your state, some will give you another small supplement once you get the SSI. NY does that.
