Seniors Experiencing homelessness now.

Being in a motel is considered homeless A lot of people don't know that.
Sorry to hear of your situation, Theresa. Have you considered looking for an apartment with the money you're using to pay the motel? Just a thought I had... even at a very inexpensive $50 a night motel, that would be $1500/mo. Just thinking aloud... when you first posted, I thought you meant you were living out of your car or at a shelter. In any case, hope things get better for you soon.

Well, first of all, you have to have first, last security deposits. cleaning deposits. And not only that, apt. are more than my Social Security a month. So this lets me do it week to week and I can use some of my savings. But I understand what you're saying. If things were that easy, where I live, everything's going up, up, up. But I'm sure that's for everyone.

Ah, okay... understood. Well, mostly. My area doesn't do all those deposits and there are a lot of places for senior housing that work with residents according to their SS income. I hadn't realized that maybe all states/areas don't do that.

I'm so glad you at least have a motel room. How long will you be permitted to stay?

I wish local gov't would just give you a damn apartment!

Do you have a hotplate? A small refrigerator? What do you do about food?

No, I have a microwave and a small refrigerator.

SNAP benefits, I hope. Apply for Medicaid, too. Get whatever you can. Hang out here. We will give you as much emotional support as you need! So glad you have the means to go on internet!
I understand what you're saying. I tried to get a hold of snap. They said I had too much money in savings a

I am on a waiting list with hud. That would be a government. property. But HUD apartments have long waiting lists.

If your Social Security is low you would qualify for a supplement from SSI but you have to apply for it. It is based on your age. Also depending on your state, some will give you another small supplement once you get the SSI. NY does that.

Im sure it must be scary... I presume you have no relatives or friends who could house you ?... I hate to hear of homelessness... if you had the money I'd tell you to jump in a plane and come here...

How long have you been homeless?..
Well, I've been here since August 29th. 2023. family Can't help, friends can't help. everyone is just getting by, and I understand that. Friends have helped a little bit. But they don't have much either.and i know everyone's situation, I don't ask for anything.
