Seniors Experiencing homelessness now.

Is the motel nice enough for you? Do you have contact with other guests at the motel? Is there public transit you can use? How large is the population there? ( Big City, small city, town, etc...). Do you have a cell phone?

Thank you for your concern.. but the town I live in or the city I live in has a small bus system I have a vehicle I have a cell phone so I'm okay in that department..

I am very glad that u joined here. There is quite a variety of subjects and people to interact with. People here are very sensitive and kind. Have no fear of expressing your self, how ever you wish. :)

Theresa, I wish you well and hope an opportunity presents itself so you can improve your situation. I would say, keep searching.
I am glad you opened our eyes to the fact that many seniors are in the same predicament. Homelessness is getting worse and affecting people who never dreamed they would be facing this in their senior years.

Locally our rents are so high for apartments that people are renting out rooms in their houses so it’s a win win for the homeowners and the tenants.
 
Back in the 90s, my brother wanted to move out of the apartment he was living in and rent a house so he'd have a garage. Every time he'd think he'd found a place he could afford, when they ran the credit check on him, his bankruptcy showed up and they turned him down.

What he finally did was save up enough money to equal about 6 months of rent for the kind of place he wanted, had it cut into a cashier's check and to the next prospective landlord said, "When you run the credit check on me you'll see my bankruptcy but guess what; not only can I give you right now the first and last month's rent and security deposit, I got right here for you the first six months." And that's how he finally got in to a place he wanted.)
 
Theresa, I am blessed not to have ever been homeless, but my heart goes out to you! I've always says it's a situation of "There but by the grace of God go I". I don't think anybody expects to ever be homeless but unexpected circumstances can be the cause. I've read about formerly wealthy people who wound up homeless and living in a "tent citiy". I wish the best for you and hope that your situation will improve soon.

We recently had a discussion about the homeless, and the so-called options for them. Sadly, there is too little sympathy for people in your circumstances. I was even told for some it's a lifestyle choice. Go figure.

I can't offer any solace. You must be your own advocate. I don't know where you are, but charities can give advice. Finding a home will be work, I'm afraid. This is doubly difficult when you're having to fight the fight from a temporary space.

Perhaps visit this site and see what services are available local to wherever you are:

Thank you for opening up and bringing the issue to light. We all need to stop and think about and ACCEPT that, yes this can happen to me. A lot of us probably have stories about how we, or someone we know, got caught completely off guard by a death or separation, because we thought that person had taken care of things and provided for us. You really just never know. As the saying goes, hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Exactly ..but most of all we should watch out for ourselves because it can happen to anyone at anytime sadly..and yes hope for the best but expect the worst..
 
Theresa. Think of the motel room as your own home, as your own "bed-sit" as they say in UK. I hope you feel safe where you are. Thank goodness you have a roof, as long as you need it, I hope. Do you pay out-of-pocket, or get vouchers? How is fee paid? I've spent a lot of time living in motel rooms. I was always in the process of getting a home, though. My husband & I moved a number of times. I didn't find motel living unpleasant, guess I'm easy to please. I am, actually.

Apologies, I've no idea where you are.

There are so many myths around such things - such as the idea there is a lot of help out there. There's nowhere near enough, and what there is is very location oriented. Then there are those who seem to look at anyone in need and feel an urge to blame you for misfortune, as though anyone would choose to be homeless.

Homelessness has been rising, and it's been widely reported. There's a sentiment that the people involved are lazy, have made bad choices, and are drug addicts and thieves anyway. All grossly misstated. What they fail to realize is that numbers are going up because an increasing number of people are getting squeezed. We've got the working homeless, and in this case the elderly homeless. Now they're squeezed until this happens. Before long, if we don't address it, it will be you and I on the street, and everyone will be pointing fingers at us!

Thank you for being understanding about the homeless it is exactly what you said seniors are being squeezed out of apartments because they're too expensive for myself I had to go off the lease a year before the gentleman passed and when I did that I had 7 days to move after he passed I'm not a drug addict I don't even drink I don't smoke so yes you're right not everyone is like that

Out of pocket ..and yes I'm adapting to being here but it's very expensive I'm glad I had a little savings to help..I feel very safe and it's only two houses away from my old apartments where I visit my friends ..sad to go there really after everything.

Is there any reason why you can't get a paying job ? Surely over the past decades of your life, you have learned some employment skills that an employer would find useful? You say you have a car, a phone and obviously a working access to the internet. What is stopping you from being employed ? I await your answer. JimB.
