Just A Reminder (I wasn’t going to put this here, but thought, ‘what the heck.’)

My wife and I took a long ride last Sunday and on the way home, I had to stop along the interstate for gas and a bathroom break. When I finished washing my hands and used the paper towel dispenser, I saw a man about 30-35 y/o push all the paper towels that had spilled over the barrel. He used his hand and arm to push the towels down as far as he could into the barrel.

I asked him if he knew why he shouldn’t do that. He looked at me kind of strange and seemed bothered that I would ask him, but he said ‘no.’ I told him because we don’t know if anyone threw a used needle into that barrel or not. If you push the towels down into the barrel and get stuck with a used needle, it could contain a drug or he could have a disease that you don’t want. If you really feel a need to push the towels down, use your foot with a good sole on it. It’s just a precaution.

He said he never gave that a thought. He thanked me and walked away.

Thank you, 911, also just to think of touching all those used towels --UGH!

Great job educating the man about the potential dangers of pushing paper towels into the bathroom barrel. It's essential to take precautions to prevent harm or the spread of diseases. Small actions like using our feet or a tissue can make a significant difference. Thanks for sharing this story @911

Gee! I have been pushing paper down for years and never got a needle. Now, that you mentioned the problem, be darned if I am ever going to push anymore paper down.. It's nice to learn something new; especially with so many "druggies" around!

nobody should ever push trash down with your foot or anything else unless it's in your own home and you know what's in it. a needle could go through a shoe too. at the right angle a needle could stick through a lot. it's never worth the risk of hep B and C or HIV or anything else that may or may not be on or in that needle. i got stuck by a needle in the trash at work without pushing the trash down and i am now doing the hep B series of vaccinations and i will have to be tested for all 3 clear into january. it's my understanding the blood work for these is very expensive. just leave the trash alone if you really wanna be safe.

you would be surprised at the things people throw away in the trash that could hurt you.

It's funny really. I have been pushing paper from paper dispensers for years in bathrooms. I guess I was trying to be a good citizen. Now, that I read this, be darned if I put my hands on that basket and try to compact the papers. Guess I have been warned and I have learned my lesson.
