My wife and I took a long ride last Sunday and on the way home, I had to stop along the interstate for gas and a bathroom break. When I finished washing my hands and used the paper towel dispenser, I saw a man about 30-35 y/o push all the paper towels that had spilled over the barrel. He used his hand and arm to push the towels down as far as he could into the barrel.
I asked him if he knew why he shouldn’t do that. He looked at me kind of strange and seemed bothered that I would ask him, but he said ‘no.’ I told him because we don’t know if anyone threw a used needle into that barrel or not. If you push the towels down into the barrel and get stuck with a used needle, it could contain a drug or he could have a disease that you don’t want. If you really feel a need to push the towels down, use your foot with a good sole on it. It’s just a precaution.
He said he never gave that a thought. He thanked me and walked away.
