What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I watched Renfield on Amazon Prime video last night. Although I’m more of a werewolf than a vampire fancier, I’ve always found the character of Renfield interesting as Dracula’s servant, and looked forward to seeing him fleshed out. The film disappointed, however, as it was mounted as a horror comedy, and you can’t be truly horrific and comic at the same time. While Nicolas Cage looked the part of Dracula, he never rose to the dark majesty of the character, and Renfield was updated in modern times as a member of a group therapy community seeking escape from a toxic relationship!

So this was a good concept ruined by muddled writing, and a confused sense of what the movie really wanted to be. While Renfield had its moments and was entertaining, it ultimately drove me batty… 🦇

Actually the last movie I watched was Barbie which was hilarious, subversive and adorable. Before that was Oppenheimer in an actual theater- I find Nolan's habit of mixing the music up so high it obscures the dialogue increasingly annoying as my hearing ages... I'm a fan, but come on, Chris, I want to hear what your actors are saying!

On Prime, the limited series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. Since the topic is domestic abuse, it’s heavy. Very well done. Signourney Weaver did a great job.

Close on Netflix..An heiress has a body guard who looks out for her and teaches her to fight back. I thought it was excellent 👍

Classic comedy, but it made people realize where the economic divide began to widen in earnest leaving small towns devastated. Soon after came NAFTA and other scams to wipe out larger working communities.

Other People's Money (1991) Official Trailer - Danny DeVito, Gregory Peck Movie HD
