What do you think of Halloween?

No doubt we all have different views. Mine is I really do not like it at all. I see it as horrible, all those decorations and dressing up as frightful things. I don't regard it as fun but as a mysterious celebration of the dark side of the imagination.
I am a Christian and that does have an influence on my view of it. I feel uncomfortable about the whole thing.

I am glad little children enjoy it but I am happy that it's over for this year.
Too much is made of it. For two weeks the day time programs were Halloween themed.
Costumes, decorating, cooking, haunted houses, orange drinks, DYI projects all about
Halloween. I got very tired of it by October 31.

Children have always greatly loved Halloween and all the trick or treat fun that goes with it. Sweet candy is a natural human sensual pleasure of great value. In many residential neighborhoods, adults much like during Christmas, have much enjoyment setting up their homes for visual fun of their neighbors. Beyond children, at the adult and commercial levels, one could certainly find subjects to criticize. Especially those that in our free society use it to broadly publicly promote some evils and secks.

When you're a child and you don't understand and you're dressed up like a princess it's different than once you're grown and fully understand the consequences of your actions. I am no part of it anymore. I don't really observe any of the holidays anymore. Forced to at work otherwise I wouldn't be bothered with it at all.

All the kids in our nearby rural area have grown up, so we haven't had any "trick or treaters" come by in the past 4 or 5 years. About all I look forward to is the isle full of post Halloween discounted candy at our local Walmart...we'll go there tomorrow, and if it's like most years I'll have plenty of KitKats, etc. to keep me happy for weeks.

When I was a kid Halloween was my favorite Holiday! It was fun trick or treating with fifty other kids. It's also a creative holiday. You get to invent your own costume. Total fun. No dark side at all.

Halloween was different when I was a kid, and a joy! It was as has been noted a fun and creative holiday, and we were perfectly safe in walking darkened neighborhood streets back then. Today, it is different, and there’s less safety and more fear…fear of getting potentially lethal diseases, fear of being robbed or abducted, and even fear of being shot if you ring the wrong doorbell. I’m glad that I grew up in the “then” rather than the “now…”. 🎃

I don't like Halloween... never really did except for the chocolate hauls when I was a kid. 🍫 My daughter liked the costume part, but all that's years behind us. The exciting part of Halloween to me *now* is that it reminds me [American] Thanksgiving is just three to four weeks away. 🦃🥧

That is how my British friend feels. I‘d be very surprised if more than a few of the kids or adults participating consider it anything other than an excuse for a party.

I’m tired of it because it goes on too long now and it’s an expensive commercial event.

For 2022, in the US. These don’t suggest the money spent for parties at home or bars.
Here's how the estimated $10.6 billion in total spending is expected to break down:

  • $3.6 billion for costumes
  • $3.1 billion for candy
  • $3.4 billion for decorations
  • $0.6 billion for greeting cards
