What are you doing today 2023

I lost my vision benefit when I retired in 2010. Then I lost vision in my left eye last year. While I'm not totally blind (I had 3 surgeries), it's so bad glasses wouldn't help with that, my ophthalmologist said. I wonder of an optician would discount if only one eye get an exam? I hace an appointment on December 18th with the retinal surgeon. I'll ask then if she'd recommend new glasses. They usually do a distance test for which I wear my driving glasses. It must be okay or they would have said something.

I'm going to tell you something...do not mess with your eyes. Do not look for discounts when getting eyes tested..it's really important it's done properly so you don't end up blind... By all means look for discounts when buying new specs... but otherwise this is not the time to release your inner Ebeneezer Scrooge when it comes to eyes...

@-Oy- I don't know if this would be any help to you, but when my mother's last surgery left her in really bad shape, we took a small tape player to the hospital with her favorite classical music. When the nurses were in an out, they'd just change the tape. This was 30+ years ago so there's gotta be something better out there now.

The nurses told us that even though she couldn't speak, she could hear and they could tell by the monitors that she calmed down a good bit when the music was playing.

@debodun Good lord! Don't mess around looking for discounts where your eyes are concerned. Never mind the cost. You can go to an optician to get the prescription filled, but the ophthalmologist is who you want for the exam and the scrip.

BTW, kids, I'm home. It was an interesting morning because we had a power outage that lasted about three hours. Add that to the fact that TL worked alone yesterday... I'm telling you, I can't be left unsupervised in a garden center, but she can't be left unsupervised at work. Nope. Never. Not even for an hour.

Slept in until the usual time so that means I got extra sleep, except I went to bed extra late. Guess I got the usual amount.

Ran into WM for three quick things. Got in the fast self-checkout for small orders. Had to wait because “this purchase must be authorized”. The place was busy and the two staff were trying to help a man who didn’t have a clue how pay. After 5 minutes, I was feeling frustrated and kept thinking is it so they can ask me if I’m interested in a credit card. Sure enough it was and I actually made a comment about them delaying us for that ‘damn question’. BTW, I don’t normally get annoyed with staff or swear. The fellow didn’t seemed shocked by my reaction so others must be doing the same. I’m going to fill out a survey this afternoon. No, I did not have a satisfactory experience.

It’s a beautiful day so I need to get out walking.
Yes, don't let this bad experience rule your life or the rest of your day. You learned something. It can only go uphill.

A Saturday in November and watching college football
Alabama won their game today, so this Buck 301 Stockman must be my lucky pocket knife

I’m not an expert so don’t take this as gospel. For reading glasses from the Dollar store, you probably need that Inter, +1.50. The 7 and 6.25 are for distance. Take your prescription into an optical shop and ask them what strength you would need for a pair of readers only. Or just go to the Dollar Pound store, try some on around that 1.50 and try reading some labels or something. Once you know, then you can buy in Costco or online.

My distance prescription was stronger than yours prior to cataract surgery.

Busy day here...

Bean soup and corn bread cooked early today and was a lovely warm/hearty meal on a raw, rainy night.

Continue to work on a knitting (sleeveless sweater vest) project

Sipped a latte at local coffee shop and tried to make sense of Medicare D insurance info rec'd (oy vey)

Stop at Walmart to check on what is available in their sketchbook selection (pending calligraphy project); initially I thought I'd grab a couple items while there, then I got a look at the lines...Fahgettaboudit

Time with Ed

Started watching the Alleyn Mysteries on Prime (based on N. Marsh's detective)

Church vigil Mass b/c I'm babysitting grandgirls tomorrow AM.

Y'all sleep well...

Early this morning I balanced my other two check books. I don't use them often (one is strictly for use with Cash App) but want to keep current so my son wouldn't have a mess to deal with should I become ill or pass away. At 9, my honorary daughter (HD) picked me up and took me to IHOP where I treated her to her birthday breakfast. Her birthday was In October but that was a very busy month for both of us.

Breakfast was delightful; very good food, great company, conversation and a wonderful, attentive waitress. I ordered a new menu item because it intrigued me....the strawberry cheesecake biscuit with, cheesecake filling, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The waitress convinced me to get the combo, which came with eggs and I substituted turkey sausage for the bacon. She threw in a hash brown and my coffee for free. There's always free food involved when my HD is around. It's like her superpower!

I brought all but the biscuit home, so I don't have to wonder what to have for breakfast tomorrow. I finished watching Geostorm, which as disaster movies go, was decent. After watching the movie and playing a couple of games, I took a nap.

Sunday again. Time to wind the clock and phone younger daughter. After yesterday's rain, the forecast looks good for today- calm, sunny and dry, but cold. Hopefully get washing done, but not much chance of getting it dried on the line.

This is just a small village, so no remembrance day ceremony - just the placing of wreaths on the memorial. The bigger towns will have remembrance ceremonies and further along the coast was WW2 RAF Banff which was the centre of operations against the German shipping in Norway.

Son coming over & we will take kittens to our own vet for their third set of boosters, or whatever they are getting.

I love being with my son, just him. He taught me what deep love is. When he was a baby and young child I would look at him and my heart would pound with love. Throughout his life I get that same feeling. It still happens when I see him alone.

He would be crushed if I had to alter my visits with grandson due to AccessARide. I must get this under control, I must.

Must also keep up daily leg exercises, esp. hamstrings. I need what's left of my strength & build more. I must.

Wet again today...forecast is for rain all week until Friday... how depressing..

It was soo cold last night, we had thick ice all on the roofs of the cars... I had to get up in the middle of the night to add a fleece to my already double comforters because it was too cold to sleep.... it was incredibly cold.🥶

I've had to have the heating on today for an hour ... I've just turned it off a few minutes ago..

I've been in the garden when we had a break in the rain , all wet grass.. to tidy everything up that get knocked over by the rain .. and empty plant pots of water.. etc .

Turned off the dehumidifier in the Barn because it had been on all night..I have no idea how much it costs to run.. but it's now about to get dark so I'll need to go back and turn in back on for the night..

I am organizing and doing an inventory of the chest freezer today. What a chore. Even with gloves, my hands are freezing. But it will be helpful to know exactly what I have in there. So far I see lots of kielbasa lol!
when I'm clearing the freezer, I out on a pair of wool gloves under a pair or rubber washing up gloves, it keeps hands from getting cold...

I found my mom's pride and joy - her flatware set for 8. It's stainless steel, but probably what my parents could afford in the 1960s. There were a lot of other pieces in the chest, but they really didn't belong with it, so I removed them. Some of those might be silver - they're tarnished enough.

These are the items I removed from the chest:
