I was invited to a little tea-party yesterday and the ladies were passing round freshly baked fruit pies.
I took a slice of gooseberry pie, and right away I was remembering old Mrs Mercer, who, when I was about 7/8 years old, used to bake goosebery pie.
She would to ask me to go down to a little general store with a list of items she needed.
She would put the list, the money and the ration coupons in a little purse and off I'd go, then when I got back, she would give me about a quarter of the dinner plate gooseberry pie she'd just baked and a big mug of tea.
Just one bite of that pie yesterday and I was whisked back over 70 years.... incredible, and Mrs Mercer would definitely be in our Nice Club' if she was still around.

There are indeed some very nice, kind people on this forum. I agree with @C50 and @Gary O': generosity is a greater gift to the giver than the recipient.
Most of my generous moves are spur of the moment. Someone in front of me at the checkout stand who can't pay for all their groceries and are asking the clerk to take this and that off the bill - I've been known to pay for their full order.
Heavily tipping in less expensive restaurants - the type where the bill comes to $40-$50 for two. They work just as hard as waitstaff in high end restaurants.
There were times when I had to count every penny and still came up short. Any generosity I show now is but a small repayment for the great relief I felt when others were generous with me.
