In theaters: Godzila Minus One

I grew up in a small town in the late 1950's. I loved 'Monster Movies (MM)'! We could find a few black and white MM's on TV, but the good ones would eventually show up in our downtown theater. Early on they usually, were black and white but some were color, that was a real treat! I recall all the Japanese movies in black and white on TV. Godzilla movies were common. I have actually watched these moving throughout my life anytime I can find them... I still love old and new monster movies, science fiction, slash movies, etc. I have always loved it all.....

I guess I am a bit twisted on this...

...sounds pretty normal to me! ;)

What Is Gojira?

What Is Gojira?

Gojira may be an unfamiliar word to some, but is simply the name for Godzilla. Back in the 19th Century, a language system called ‘Romanization’ was introduced.

It might sound complex, but it was actually just a way of writing Japanese using the Roman alphabet instead of their characters to help English readers and writers – hence Gojira.

Gojira is so-named because of the blend of words ‘gorira’ and ‘kujira’, which can be translated to gorilla and whale. As a massive dinosaur-like creature from the deep, this is pretty appropriate. It seems simplistic, but it formed a name recognized the world over.

A good deal of Japanese anime "fandub" music videos will provide English, Spanish, etc. subtitles along with romaji of the original Japanese lyrics. Or in some cases even Russian, which was sometimes used intermixed with English.

Sadly most of the best examples have been eaten away by digital rot in the form of copyright claims over time.

Every now and then, I've got to have me some Godzilla. This is left over from my childhood when going to the theater to see Godzilla movies with my friends was one of the more fun things I did. My son, two youngest grandchildren (teens then) and I saw Godzilla King Of The Monsters in the theater in 2019, It was a fun movie and we recognized that it was left open for another film to follow. It does look good, but don't think I'll see this one in the theater though, especially since it's subtitled. I'll wait until it streams. I have some older Godzilla movies in my queues to tide me over. 🤓

I took my grandson to see it. He's 15, and a HUGE fan. At certain points, he got teary-eyed, not because the scenes were emotional but because they were gloriously nostalgic...iconic throwbacks to so many of the early Godzilla movies that made him a fan.

It's totally worth waiting for when it starts streaming.
