The Stone Cold Truth

i'm gonna try to do my own this year. it's getting too expensive to have h & r block do it. last year i had to pay $150 for them to do my taxes. and that's the EZ form!

Well naturally people would prefer not paying taxes if they had the option. And now we have a survey (of 200 people) that proves it.

But working Americans know their taxes fund schools, infrastructure, the military, police, AFDC, pays our elected officials and supports their programs and agencies, etc.

And I suppose our taxes funded this survey. 🙃

From the article:
Americans would rather clean prison toilets, name their child ‘Taxes’ than deal with the IRS

haha, not me, I would rather just pay my taxes so I don't have to clean prison toilets. Like any gigantic organization, the IRS is confusing and seemingly incoherent...but not nearly as bad as California's Franchise Tax Board. It's my understanding that the CA FTB is still suffering from the result of a computer network system that's been cobbled together and patched, a mix-mash of new and old.

I wonder just how many taxpayers who chose those options would really follow through. I always requested an appointment then brought all my paperwork to the nearest IRS office and let them figure it out. I don't know if they still do that though.

Merry Christmas.

I’m a retired IRS agent. The only people I ever had a problem with were Posse Comitatus goofs. They usually calmed down when my armed escorts had a chat with them.

Really how could anybody gripe about the IRS?
I guess if I thought hard maybe I could come up with something.
Like..... Why do we have to use a commercial tax agency to file Federal/State online tax forms. Why can H&R Block submit tax documents to the IRS, online, while I can't? The IRS has no problem accepting my online tax payments, why can't it accept my tax returns without me having to pay someone to submit it to them?

I never had tax issues aside from planning how to balance things to avoid overpaying.

For example there are traps related to when you start taking Social Security, the investment RMD issues, mistakes with Roth IRA contributions, etc.

But I've always filed my own returns.

Sounds like New Jersey's Division of Motor Vehicles. Ancient 30 year old computer system.

That's still pretty common.

Every so often somebody gets the notion to hire some consulting firm to "modernize." We won't look too hard at the kickbacks or revolving door hires though.

Millions later it all falls apart. Lawsuits, token settlements, and a few years later rinse and repeat.
