How much TV do you watch?

I watch very little now. News headlines with breakfast, we follow box set dramas in the evening. On Sundays as we eat our roast we like a nature, history or travel programme. We do ha e Sky and Netflix as my husband likes sports and films of his choice. Sometimes we watch a film together.
Daily I much prefer reading and never watch daytime TV. For me a good book is my essential winding down for a good night's sleep, we do not have a TV in the bedroom.

This is in stark contrast to years ago when I followed every soap! I used be in front of the TV a lot.

I was thinking too about those times gone by when it was the testcard, national anthem and no TV after midnight. I remember when people watched the ten o'clock news and it was bedtime. Have we lost something now? With 24 hour TV stimulation of the mind, endless choice, huge amount of rubbish programmes, could this be contributing to people's insomnia?

Oh, I do believe TV contributes to poor sleep patterns! How could it not?

Let's say you plan to go to bed at 11.

You first watch a couple hours of one of those Netflix Viking saga series (which the Spousal Equivalent is currently addicted to....every time I walk by, someone is being chopped up, disemboweled, or beheaded).

Then you crawl into bed and it sure as tootin' ain't visions of sugar plums that are dancing through your head!

I have never watched a box set that's the truth..

I rarely watch tv per se.. it's a long time habit given that I worked in TV production. and so unless it was something which was favourite or something we'd worked especially hard on.. then I stopped watching tv because I got too critical of certain things... my husband is the same.. he'll shout ''shoot look at that boom shadow'' in a scene or.. some other criticism.. so ultimately I got out of the habit of watching TV regularly..

Now since retiring.. and husband gone..I spend most of my tv watching time avoiding HIS shows because he's still there making them....and it would upset me to see them.. hard to avoid because they're the highest viewing shows on TV, and of course also there's constant reports about storylines in the media .....so I tend to watch shows more on channels like Discovery plus, to keep away from Terrestrial... the BBC and ITV predominately... and other shows that I do enjoy like Strictly Come Dancing ..I record.. and watch later at night.. or on a Sunday ...many of the shows I watch have production staff who are my personal friends..

I watch way to much tv, I'll admit it....started of course when I was a kidling, my older Bro bought a Hallicrafters TV and put it in for us....only 2nd tv in our town I remember, and we were poor family, so it raised eyebrows, got lotsa friend due to that tv...but developed some bad habits also...today it is as much a noise screen agains tinnitus as it is for the programming......

No tv watching for me. That's why I returned and cancelled my tv cable service after hubby died. I only watch a movie on Netflix or Prime or Tubi or Freevee in the evening. I don't watch any news. I do watch quilting channels I subscribe to on Youtube.

I watch more TV in the winter then any other time of year, but after the weather and news there often isnt much there that interests me. I loved the old Frazier show and thought Kelsey Grammer was suppose to have a new show on in November but maybe I dont have the channel package it is on.

But I learned something new today about my Directv -I clicked on the search feature in the menu on the controller- which I never used before and I was able to put Kelsey Grammar into the search feature and some of his older shows popped up on channel 80, which I get but never watched before.

I use the controller menu a lot to auto connect to Movies I want to watch, ay a future time and date, so I dont have to remember to change the Channel, but I never tried the search feature on it before.

I have the Menu program that shows who is calling me on my landline, but I disconnected the phone from that because sometimes it did not work.

Zero. Ditched the TV about three years ago and don't miss it. In UK viewers still have to pay a licence fee: the price goes up but programme quality keeps going down. Simple cost/benefit analysis. Ergo, no telly! :D

I never watch such dramas close to sleep time, only early evening. If we watch strong dramas, occasionally, we always finish the evening with a nice comedy, then I read for at least half an hour in bed. I couldn't possibly sleep otherwise.

I don't watch enough TV. Oh, it is always on as a background, but I choose badly there--the news in the background depressing me. I need to actually watch drama, comedies, movies. Something uplifting.
I like property programmes like Homes under the Hammer or nature documentaries especially David Attenborough. Information programmes. There is such rubbish otherwise on it's disappointing scrolling trying to find something with any brain to it. Plus the commercials annoy me so much.

It horrifies me how much mindless numbing stuff people must be watching, like zombies. I refuse to do that, there are so many books need reading.

Depends what you mean by TV.

If you mean watch scheduled shows when they're broadcast - then I never, ever, watch TV. I don't actually OWN a TV at this point.

However, like the OP's husband, there are things I like, such a football. I do watch that, I just stream it. I don't have any paid streaming services other than what I get as an Amazon Prime member, and if I could opt out of that I would (I never use it).

I watched tv all the time til the day they showed an image from Saddam Hussein's hanging. I turned the tv off that day and never looked back.

I stream movies and tv shows on my laptop because I have more control over what I'm viewing that way. I mostly watch tv on the laptop at night when I get home from work. And some on my days off. If I have trouble sleeping I will put it on and fall asleep watching something.

They have cable at the hospital for patients and visitors. When I was a patient in ER I turned the tv on and put it on MeTV and left it there. It's a safe channel for me to watch. I mostly read and play video games.

What do you mean when you say license fee? On what? The over the air TV?
If no telly are you able to stream services to watch tv on a computer or does that cost too?

I put the tv on at 5 pm and turn it off between 8-9pm. I watch a couple hours of news and then shows that I have recorded.

I rarely watch broadcast television, often much less than one show. Maybe during bad storms, but little more. No cable here for years and years.

Lately, I have had music on instead of the tv. I'm sure that will change but for now, just music. I have Netflix again so I should start watching it.

I watch it all the time and am not ashamed of it!!
Oh that's fine too - you enjoy it and that's your right.
It is a great way to relax if it makes you happy. TV provides a vital role I assume especially for people living alone, it's company. It depends what you choose. TV is a tool like anything, used wisely there is a world of stimulation and information.
It's just I find it takes real effort to wade through the sheer rubbish on offer. I don't want to commit my time to mindless watching. Yet what is mindless to me may be very entertaining for others.
