What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

A couple days ago we watched Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb, a documentary on Netflix. Recently released and concerning a recent archaeological dig & finds in Egypt. Interesting stuff... including the structure of a priest's tomb, the deep-relief statuary, mummies (one was a half-grown lion), and hieroglyphic writing in colored pigments. An all-round amazing documentary movie!

I rarely watch 'Romantic Comedies', but I made an exception and watched ' You Got Mail'.
Was told it was a remake of the classic 'The Shop Around the Corner' with Jimmy Stewart.
And this one starred Tom Hanks, who never disappoints.

Found it well written and directed, plus both Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan pulled it off.
When Tom told Meg to 'Go To The Mattresses', I found myself really liking the movie.
Found that the entire movie is the way this type of movie should be made, but so few reach this level.

A very small part of the movie is when Meg is putting ornaments on the shop tree and mentions Joni Mitchell's song ' River'.

I paused the movie to listen to one of my favorite songs this time of year.

Today, we went and saw Wonka. I loved it! It had a bit of Mary Poppins magic and
Gene Kelly dancing and it was musical with lots of songs. Very entertaining with
stunning visuals. Wonka is a lad with a dream to make a chocolate factory one day, and
he has to fight the cartel. But he and his newfound friends find a solution.

I just watched Maestro also. Mixed feelings, but I thought the music was incredibly wonderful. Interesting the way the style of the movie kept changing, according to the decade in which it was taking place. So the acting, the width of the screen, and black & white or color kept changing as the movie moved along through about 3 decades.

They certainly were an "interesting" couple, to put it mildly.

Last night on my Dell 24 inch PC 4k UHD display, watched Kubric's 1968 masterpiece, "2001: A Space Odyssey". Had watched it in theaters when it came out but never the whole 2 hour 25 minute movie again. Now over Christmas on for free with ads at Tubitv.net. Most definitely use head phones or a good speaker system. Watch it here:

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Wow, Wow, and Wow! Even now 5 decades later it looks as modern and scientifically accurate as any recent films or movies and of course the sound track is absolutely incredible. All the eerie sounds during the black obelisk segments had my spine tingling just like when I saw it decades ago. Really loved the first few minutes with the apes. That was filmed in Namibia of southwest Africa, with its wonderfully desolate vast landscapes.

Was impressed by the subtleties of the simple dialogue during the space station segments and all the subtle realistic weightless effects that one rarely sees in usual modern space films where they explain away such by claiming use of artificial gravity. Was particularly interested in trying to make sense out of the weird end wormhole etc segment that is what it seems to be. I do like the story line that our human evolution has been influenced by an advanced race of ancient aliens that reflects my own vague ideas about man and what people call God. Also the black obelisks reflect what we have come to understand as non-organic robotic AI's that are far more likely to be what visits earth than any little green men.

Just watched Amazing Grace; 2006; 1 hr, 58 min; starring Ioan Gruffudd (and many other great actors); about British politician William Wilberforce, one of the leaders of the movement to abolish the slave trade in England. What a great movie; I can't believe it took me this long to see it; I wish it would come out on blu-ray or streaming. (I watched it on a standard-def dvd.)

The last? Oppenheimer. This is the celebrated movie recently in theaters, and new for a price on Prime. I hated it!! Unlike an Oppenheimer documentary I watched a few months back it was only a little about his work in supervising development of the A Bomb, but rather went crazy over accusations that he or his wife was a Communist. It is very long. Watched first half last night, but got sick of communist, communist, communist, and gave it up.

Sat down last night to watch one of my favorite holiday movies, The Family Man with Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni; it was a brand new dvd, and it wouldn't play, sigh. And since I bought the dvd almost 2 years ago (just hadn't gotten around to unwrapping and watching it), looks like I won't get my money back, sigh. So we rented it from XFinity On Demand; great movie.

The creator
As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind. As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.

My husband givers it 2 thumbs up IMG_3435.jpeg

Rebel Moon on Netflix plays like Star Wars run through The Magnificent Seven. When an authoritarian militaristic high tech empire tries to confiscate the crops of a primitive, agrarian society, an adept female warrior who’s found a new home there decides to fight back, recruiting unlikely warriors from across the Galaxy Into a rag tag army.

This is a big budget, special effects SyFy film with epic elements, and is well done. Part I is now available, with Part II coming in the spring…

Maestro. I agree with @Jackie23 -- Outstanding. I can't praise it enough. I was so engrossed I didn't even pause it for a bathroom or concentration break. Luminous, thrilling, special. Always had a thing for Leonard Bernstein throughout my life. Netflix.
Maestro on Netflix, I thought it was outstanding..
This movie was really well done.
There was a lot of smoking in the movie.
Apparently Brad cooper spent 6 years studying that 6 minute, 21 second composition he conducted. That part was filmed LIVE! That really WAS the London Symphony Orchestra and he really IS an accomplished musician. All the piano playing was really him.

Another movie directed by him where he shows off his musical talent is called A Star IS BORN and it features Lady Gaga. It’s actually a modern musical but so well done. I highly suggest watching it
