What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I watched "War Room" last night on TV.

Some of my church members saw it in a theatre as soon as it came out and said it was wonderful but I bought it at amazon as soon as I could.
Although I watched it two or three times since, and I didn't plan on church today because of the weather, I was able to stay up later than usual and I fully enjoyed this movie again-it is a wonderful movie and I noticed things about it, that I didn't pick up on before. It is a Christian movie with a powerful message. I belong to a Prayer Warriors group at my church.

I watched Equalizer 3 this weekend. If there's an Equalizer 4 it's going to have to be about Denzil breaking up a black market pudding ring at the nursing home. lol.

I've always like him as an actor but didn't find E3 to be a good movie or his character very believable due to him showing his age.

I haven't seen this yet, but it comes highly recommended. The Boys in the Boat. It should be in theatres now. The trailer looked very good.

I last watched the newest Bradley Cooper flick, "Maestro". My comments: He's a formidable actor. I have seen several of his films, my favorite being "Silver Linings Playbook". The media has been writing dumb stories about his prosthetic nose in Maestro . What a dumb topic!
NEWS FLASH: actors wear make-up. They wear it in nearly everything. Get over it.

I liked the film overall, but I would have liked more scenes of Bernstein's career and collaborations, more scenes of the making of one project or another project. I guess that would have been a more expensive project and tougher to cast? I'm much more interested in his work than his personal life. That's just me I guess. Perhaps other audience members want to figure out if Bernstein was bi or gay? YAWN. Who cares?

But I'm sure the two co-stars will be nominated for best actor and actress. Again, YAWN. "Oh look, it's Bradley Cooper getting another award."
It will be nice for Carey Mulligan.
It was fine. 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's not a film I would want to see again, whereas, Silver Linings Playbook I have already seen 2 or 3 times.

The last? Oppenheimer. This is the celebrated movie recently in theaters, and new for a price on Prime. I hated it!! Unlike an Oppenheimer documentary I watched a few months back it was only a little about his work in supervising development of the A Bomb, but rather went crazy over accusations that he or his wife was a Communist. It is very long. Watched first half last night, but got sick of communist, communist, communist, and gave it up.
I still have to see that one. The three-hour time was what kept me out of the theater. I was so worried I'd have to go to the restroom and miss something great. I'm also worried I'll hate it. I don't want to spend even $5 on a film I'll hate. I like films with content, not necessarily fast action all the time, but something has to be happening other than close-ups of actors EMOTING. There seems to be a lot of close-ups of actors having a moment in flims these days. When directors do this I say, "OK, fine, I see." but then I keep waiting for things to actually happen in the film - or could we have some dialog please?

I could never go to film school. I would flunk out. LOL. In my films, I would expect people to talk and do things.

This movie was really well done.
There was a lot of smoking in the movie.
Apparently Brad cooper spent 6 years studying that 6 minute, 21 second composition he conducted. That part was filmed LIVE! That really WAS the London Symphony Orchestra and he really IS an accomplished musician. All the piano playing was really him.

Another movie directed by him where he shows off his musical talent is called A Star IS BORN and it features Lady Gaga. It’s actually a modern musical but so well done. I highly suggest watching it
People smoked constantly in the 50s, 60s and 70s. There were even TV ads run all the time for cigarettes.

Sat down last night to watch one of my favorite holiday movies, The Family Man with Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni; it was a brand new dvd, and it wouldn't play, sigh. And since I bought the dvd almost 2 years ago (just hadn't gotten around to unwrapping and watching it), looks like I won't get my money back, sigh. So we rented it from XFinity On Demand; great movie.
I have always liked The Family Man too. It should be re-run on TV and streaming channels as a holiday film. I wonder why it is not?

Definitely. This film portrayed that perfectly. People used to smoke anywhere and everywhere. After a while of no public smoking indoors, one gets used to it. The film portrayed the era very well.
Our local supermarket has a sign at the checkout counter forbidding the sale of cigarettes to those under 21. Good, but I wish cigarettes were forbidden, period. My mother was addicted, and I believe they killed her.

Tobacco sellers make far too much money for them to become illegal even if they kill people.
I wish tobacco was forbidden also but that STILL won’t stop people from using it. Unfortunately People become addicted.

Last night on Youtube for free, watched an unusual low budget 2019 movie, E.M.P. 333 Days and will recommend it to many others, especially children and their parents. (well old folks too) Although it did have a few loose ends that should have added more context, overall was well structured.

The main character is an understandably naive 11 year old girl under care of her grandmother while her widowed father is on a business trip hundreds of miles away. They seem to live in a rural Midwest farming region. A large E.M.P. high altitude nuclear device explodes in early December turning inoperative most electronics across the nation including her smartphone, vehicles, infrastructure, communications. Her father however was a member of a survivalist group that made plans for such an event, left a map, the girl soon alone and cold during a snowy winter, then gradually works to follow as her limited home food supply runs out.

The movie is a shallow versus what an intelligent MacGyver would wisely do and she does do several foolish things one might expect from a child. She links up with a like age scared boy helping add a reason for dialogue. There are immoral bad guys with guns adding to dangers.

To actually cause as much electronic damage as in this fictional story, there would need to be many such highest nuclear device blanketing across the nation. So that was a stretch.

Just finished watching Kung-Fu Hustle for about the 6th time (since its release).

This film has everything; the Chinese mafia, kung-fu fighting, epic special effects, a literal frog man, homages that can make you cry, and superb acting, directing and cinematography.

Plus, it's the funniest movie I've ever seen.

I don't know, "Big Trouble In Little China" is pretty hard to beat.

The last movie I saw on TV was 'Twister'96 starring Helen Hunt and late Bill Paxon.
They play divorced couple who are storm chasers ,one of my favorite movies
In May,saw the movie'Rocketman' the Elton John bio pic,it was awesome.Targon Ergerton was terrific as Elton,.He sang all the songs, has a good singing voice.Jamie Bell is wonderful as Bernie Taupin, playing Elton's long time lyricist
Twister indeed was a fantastic movie.

My graddkids told me this is one of the best movies of 2023.

They told me Meesh and I should watch it. I'm thinking about it....rolling my eyes every time.
It's OK. What can I say? I'm old. When you are old you may have seen a lot of GREAT films. Will Barbie be judged to be a great film 15 years from now? We shall see. However, I am thrilled that Barbie's female director has made a ton of money for the studios and will light the way for other female directors. That should have happened in the 20th century, not the 21st, but as usual, we ladies will settle for what we get when we get it - like the right to vote. Gaining the right to vote only took 130 years, but who is counting?

Bryce Dallas (Dads, 2019 documentary; The Mandolorian, a Star Wars series)) , Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), and Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), are just a few among quite a handful of excellent female directors.

I refuse to talk happy about how gender inequality behind the camera is finally decreasing. I remember the years from 1977 to 1999 and how I thought no way should I get a degree in Directing because who will hire me? I have since read articles quoting women who got their MFAs in directing and they say, yeah, no one will hire them. They don't direct with that degree. They do other things to earn a living: Women's Work.
Here is this truthful article on the topic - no happy talk. It's a little old. One female director for every 22 men: Hollywood's stark diversity problem
Hollywood Reporter has also aspired to write a balanced article on the topic, i.e., it's getting better, but it still stinks. Despite ‘Barbie’s’ Box Office Dominance, Progress for Female Directors Remains Stalled

When the jobs are equally distributed among the genders on both side of the camera, I'll stop complaining.

Society of the Snow
While Society of the Snow offers a fictionalized version of events, complete with nerve-jangling plane crash and avalanche sequences, the film takes its inspiration from a very real tragedy: the crash of Uraguayan Air Force Flight 571 in the Andes in 1972 and its aftermath, during which a total of 29 people died.

This movie is a very well done version of a real life story about a sports team that crashed in the mountains and all the things that had to endure to survive. It’s an exceptionally moving movie. 2 1/2 hours.

I wasn't arguing with you. I wasn't being coy or dismissive.

I was pointing out there are great female directors out there. It's tragic when you think about the fantastic films we probably missed out on for decades.

I'm compelled to point out that it's getting increasingly difficult for men to have important conversations with women about all sorts of gender inequities because so many women get immediately defensive, and then offensive about it before anything with significant value can be presented and examined.

Ladies, if you are guilty of this, please stop doing it. It's not helping.
