I've used Tax Act for years and filed electronically. We always had a simple return. I'm assuming nothing will change this year just because hubby died in October.
Nor me, for even longer, but Hubby and I before retirement always had ours prepared by a qualified taxation accountant.I haven't filed a return in 8 years
That's who I'm using this year instead of Tax Act. Last year I paid $45 for state!I do my own along with Free Tax U.S.A. They just charge for the state return, and then it's just $14.99.
I just finished my taxes on line with Free Tax. The state tax fee changed a little this year. Last year it was $14.99. It still is, but they added $1.20 tax. So the total cost is $16.19. Which ofcourse is still not bad. That's who I'm using this year instead of Tax Act. Last year I paid $45 for state!
But that's why there's H&R Block.I knew a guy who took vacation time during tax season to work for H&R Block. He had a real struggle, knowing people are all people but wondering how the clients could be so "challenged" on the very fundamentals of personal accounting. Being unable to balance one's checkbook is not a joke. There are cavemen among us.
This can only get tougher in the future for this growing population segment. Illiteracy and innumeracy are on the increase just when society is becoming even more demanding of those skills.
