South African lawyer's incredible speech accusing Israel of genocide at ICJ

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is currently hearing South Africa’s accusation that Israel’s military assault on the Gaza Strip amounts to genocide against Palestinians. Israel strongly denies the accusations and has dismissed them as “atrocious and preposterous”. The hearings began on January 11, 2024, and are expected to last several weeks. The hearing on January 12, 2024, is when Israel is expected to present its defense against the charges.

Look at the number of replies to the threads that are more pro-Israel. Then look at this thread. That should tell you all you need to know about this topic.

I don't think it does. I think if you look at the historical context, every time the Israeli's go to town on the people of Gaza, the uproar from people on the pro-Palestinian side gets louder and stronger. This time, countries have stood up and taken a stand against the abuses that have and are coming out of the Israeli government. Ireland, Spain, South Africa, several S. American countries.....That didn't really happen last time in 2014. And the protests are getting bigger. That tells me that more and more people in the world are getting fed up with a country that takes it for granted that they can abuse without consequences.

Israel is defending their side now live.

I'm sorry, I'm only a minute and a half into the Israeli lawyers speech and I know I'm going to have a hard time listening. Because he starts out ignoring 70 years of oppression that has been replete with Palestinian deaths, beatings, midnight home invasions and deprivations, food and water deprivations, home, farm and village expulsions in both the West Bank and Gaza, settler attacks and murders of Palestinian people in the West Bank, checkpoints and dead newborns because of those checkpoints, not to mention the daily humiliations by the IDF.

This 'war' didn't start on October 7th. That was a single awful battle in a war that has been going on for decades, where the IDF have wielded state of the art superior weaponry every time. What's unconscionable is that it has taken this long to make Israel have to defend themselves before a criminal court.

And I know, some of you are screaming in your minds that I just hate the Jews. But I don't. And in other circumstances if the Jewish people were being crushed, I'd be speaking out for them. I'm a person whose heart strings are pulled for whomever is the underdog in any issue. In this one, it is not Israel. They are not the underdogs. What happened to the 1200 on October 7th was a travesty and I can't imagine their terror and the pain that they suffered in their last moments and I grieve for them in that regard and for their families who lost people.

But coming to an understanding after a great deal of reading and informing myself thanks to Canada's past Israel-loving Prime Minister's experience with being walked out on by a Palestinian MP, I see clearly that the Palestinians are the underdogs and it is absolutely wrong how they have and are being treated. If what is happening to the Rohingya, what is happening to the Ukrainians, what happened to generations of black Americans in early America or FN people in early Canada and America is wrong, so is this.

Sorry to be 'preaching' but I've been following both sides videos, shorts and reels and comments and justifications and I just felt compelled to run off at the mouth. Jesus said, 'do unto others as you would have done to yourself'......we have to start standing up for them and for the sake of peace in that region, Israel has to stop.

Black Americans live side by side with whites and are in government, Canada just elected it's first First Nation premier and black South Africans hold the reins of their government although they've got a long way to go in terms of economic success but even there the brutality and repression has stopped. The world can do better and we have to do better for the sake of our humanity. Sermon ended, if you got this far, my thanks and I'm going to go back and try to finish listening to Israel speak at the ICG.

Population of Gaza; around 2.5 million.

Deaths in Gaza since the Oct 7th invasion of Israel; a little over 20,000, mostly Hamas military leaders and troops.

I'm not seeing a genocide here. I'm seeing a war.
