Winter weather and the noise in the house

I have 4 faucetss, 3 tubs, dripping to avoid frozen pipes. It is the most irritating noise! I can't seem to block it out. I also am running the gas furnace more than normal as a precaution and the sound of it running is just another noise.

I have tinnitus anyway that drives me nuts when I try to sleep. Now I have more distracting sounds. I must remember to get some earplugs for the future. I am sure not going out to get any right now. I do run an oscillating fan year round that helps but not with all this other stuff.

It seems silly but when you can't sleep well it does not make for good days at all!
 

I have 2 sound devices and I keep them running most of the time. There are various sounds to choose from. I usually choose the Ocean waves. If I focus on that it puts me to sleep. Before going to bed I also take 2 medicines for relaxation and sleep. I have had sleeping problems most of my life.

I forgot to say that the sound devices block a lot of noise in this apartment building.
 

If it helps any I really know what you mean. I lived in an old cottage for years that had a terrle roof. I bet at on point I had 7 pans inside a small cottage! It drove me nuts for awhile. Then I got used to it. Even that amount of noise.

I had a friend when I lived in Brooklyn that lived under the overhead subway. Every halve hour or so the place literally shook. I asked him about it. And he just shrugged his shoulders like it was nothing.

I have a slab foundation, so no, I have no control over that. I have covers on the outside faucets, in the house, I open the cabinet doors so the heat can get in there. Of course, I run water to keep the pipes from freezing.

We usually only have a couple of bad times in the winter, It was in the 70s days ago. This is going to be one of those long times. Quite a few days of brutal cold. It is not it is not as bad as we had a couple of years ago, so I guess I should count my blessings. The power company has asked us to cut back but we have not had bad outages yet.

While I don't have dripping faucets, I've got other noises to keep me awake. The refrigerator makes all kinds of pops, and crackles. The siding on the house expands and contracts causing pops. Then my stomach growls all night long.
 
Living in my condo is extremely quiet. I can rarely hear anything outside or from others. It’s much quieter than when I lived in a house. I do run an air cleaner with white noise when I sleep.

I have a white noise CD I run when I sleep. I like it so much I bought 2 additional. The site I got it from is no longer there. It sounds like a low pitch blowing air conditioner. Never get one of those white noise machines. I tried one and it was awful. Had a pitch to it that was too high. I have good hearing.

Do you have some cotton balls or cotton pads you can put in your ears. I'm sorry the noises bother you. I remember getting a little distressed when it got cold and I'd drip the bathtub. And I'm in California.

A bit off topic; Back in the 90s Calif had a freezing winter, so me and one of my sons helped my dad rip up my parents' kitchen floor to get under their house and wrap their pipes. Their house was also built on a slab.

When we replaced the floor we installed a hatchway type door so that we'd never have that problem again. Coincidentally, that little hatchway saved my dad quite a bit on plumbing costs a couple of times...when he could just crawl under there and fix things himself.

I think @Jules and @hollydolly had good ideas - laying a sponge or folded washcloth under the faucets should quiet the dripping.
