I think if you search historical newspapers you will find that every younger generation has been unwilling to work as hard as their elders. Funny how that is.the next generation indignant over working
Getting the younger generation into work ain't easy if parents have metaphorically kicked ass and got them out of their lazy stupor. Once in work they will quickly learn that:Over and over again I have heard and read and watched the next generation indignant over working 9-5 or working at all. A whole lot of times these people sink into a gripping depression and in my mind, I am thinking "get a job". Thoughts?
But these influencers work and earn money. In my country (Germany) the welfare system pays the rent, health insurance and most of all you get the "Bürgergeld" a kind of unconditional basic income in addition. Why work a 9-5, job hold up in a office cubby, for insufficient pay for a boss who tells you what to do when you can be be your own boss being an online "influencer", or create viral videos, or work at home selling for Amazon, or building up followers on Instagram etc, for 6 figures?!! And takes much less time per day, make your own hours, and then go out and play in the fresh air with all your friends and get whatever exercise you want to do whenever and however long??
I hadn't thought of that, but it does ring true. After I got out of the military(my early 20s) I'd typically pay $10-15 week for a "studio" apartment. I was dirt poor, but somehow I scraped up enough for rent, gas, cigarettes and a six pack for the weekend. The rents are too damn high. If the rent were doable, more young people would leave their parents' home earlier, and get a job to support their apartments and an independent way of life. I couldn't wait to have my own home, and when I was young it was not only possible, but easy. The rents are too damn high, it's enslaving our young people as well as their parents.
Sounds good to me if I could have made my living being my own boss when I was a young person I would have jumped at it. Instead, I labored for little reward, got yelled at by bad bosses, and jumped when told to, or else, damn I wish I were starting out again.
No problem Lara. I didn't presume it. Obviously just a misunderstanding. Perhaps I should have be more clear in my comment.@George1959 ...I wasn't insinuating that influencers aren't working. I'm saying they become their own boss, make their own hours, make more money than they need doing it, simply sit at their computers and have fun with it...So...they don't have any desire to do the type of labor that is needed by other owners of big companies that have had no trobuble in the past of finding workers.
No need for them to go and work in someones office, or restaurant, grocery store, or shopping mall. So there's now a labor shortage for long established companies...many of which pay minimum wage.
Hey girly, hold your tongue! What is up with younger people not wanting to work?
What's up with geezers bitching and moaning about young people? Jealousy?
All reasons you've mentioned are valid. But I often met people who were not at all satisfied or even happy with their profession. Some examples: One of my professors at the university hated his job and was often complaining about it. In my family there are people who have good jobs and don't like them too.Getting the younger generation into work ain't easy if parents have metaphorically kicked ass and got them out of their lazy stupor. Once in work they will quickly learn that:
Having a good job may add many benefits to your life, as it may allow you to live comfortably and provide stability for yourself and your family. A job can be important, as finding fulfilment in work can be important to our overall well-being.
A job may be important for a sense of purpose since it can provide goals to work toward each day and an income to support you financially. It can help you build skills and experience that will last throughout your career, even if you change careers later in life.
Your job can connect you with others, which can help you learn more about the world by interacting with people, be it customers, clients or coworkers, you feel feel more connected to society. Work gives you a sense of fulfilment: It helps to feel you have achieved a goal within your career or personal life.
A job may make you financially secure at the moment and in the future by providing resources to pay for necessities. A job offers an opportunity to learn new skills such as customer service, organisation or public speaking. Then there is wellness: Some jobs offer an opportunity to move our bodies throughout the day, which may contribute to overall health.
I worked with several people who had worked as teachers, & one as an engineer, before giving those up to go into law enforcement which they retired from. Sometimes you just have to change your direction. All reasons you've mentioned are valid. But I often met people who were not at all satisfied or even happy with their profession. So true. Our generation has made them that way, by making them feel they are ENTITLED.Why work a 9-5, job hold up in a office cubby, for insufficient pay for a boss who tells you what to do when you can be be your own boss being an online "influencer", or create viral videos, or work at home selling for Amazon, or building up followers on Instagram etc, for 6 figures?!!
