I have been having a great deal of trouble focusing on books, TV, audio books, podcasts etc since Devin’s death. Normally, these things are therapeutic for me, they redirect my thoughts, allow my general anxiety to quiet, give me something to focus on external to my own brain. But since Devin died, my mind won’t stop racing, I ruminate, have obsessive thoughts, hyper-focus on Devin and the countless things I think about relating to his death, the guilt, what ifs….you name it my brain goes there.
My therapist suggested doing jigsaw puzzles, crafts, painting, or assembling Lego. I’m not a huge jigsaw fan, used to craft all the time, but now can’t think of any craft I particularly want to do, I haven’t painted in years and my acrylics and oils are pretty much dried up. But I’ve never done Lego other than helping my kids when they were little, so I thought I’d give that a shot.
I had no idea the wealth of projects available to adults. It was instantly intriguing to me, and I mentioned it to my daughter, who very sweetly ordered me a Lego that she knew I would enjoy because she knows I love things floral, and she knows the colors in my house, so it arrived on my doorstep a few days ago.
Very timely too because we were hit with a major snow storm, 9” in Nashville which is unheard of here, so I’ve been housebound for the last 3 days. Took advantage of that to work on this Lego. I thoroughly enjoyed it, kept my mind busy even when I wasn’t working on it, and the end result is a unique, kinda funky floral piece that I just love.
See the last photo for the final product. I’ll definitely be ordering more.
