Experts see high chance of ‘global catastrophe’ within 10 years

Maybe you lean that way because of your age, but I'm leaning that way because I've put in lots of time reading and watching the scientific video explanations of where we are today and how we got there. And obviously no one can really predict the foibles of human ego regarding wars and such, but when you can measure and observe and do the required calculations on an earth system like how climate has developed over millennia, it's not foolish to make predictions on what will happen if we continue to inject our environment with known toxins like methane and carbon dioxide.

Here's one more effect that has been observed but spoken about a lot less than other issues so far....and that is the slowing of the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf Stream brings warm water from the equator, up north and helps to stabilize the climate of Atlantic coast lines. As more ice melts in the Arctic, it injects fresh water into the salt ocean which changes how the current moves down along Canada/America's eastern coastline which ultimately impacts the Gulf Stream that moves back to the north.

I watched 3 climatologists talking about what would happen if that current slows too much and maybe stalls, and they all said it would cause the climate in the UK and Eastern Europe to become much, much colder which would impact their agriculture. While none of this will happen in our lifetimes and not even in the lifetimes of our children or maybe even grandkids, it seems to me that we have a responsibility to our descendants not to kill the 'golden goose' (our wonderful earth system) that has sustained us, before they arrive on the scene.

This is a really interesting 13 minute video for those who want a better explanation of how the Gulf Stream makes our world comfortable and livable.....
It says this video is unavailable.

It says this video is unavailable.
That's so weird because I just watched it and did a test with just the URL. Here it is again, Let me know if it still doesn't work. It just worked again for me by the way so....???

************
Third time I tried it and now even the URL is showing up here as Video Unavailable! Sorry, I don't know how to overcome this. It's a conspiracy I tell you! A conspiracy to hide information from the world!!!!

I think the problem is that you posted the link without a space between it and the text before it. The way the forum software deals with that makes it an invalid link.

Of course, now it appears that the video is no longer available at YouTube.

1700 disease in the streets, many new births didn't make it and live or die.
1800's same stuff, live or die was the rule.
Very early 1900's, no HVAC, no Electricity, it was an emergency, a global emergency and live or die.
1925 and auto's had no good mud rut roads to drive on and live or die.
1950 and no one had clean water to drink and live or die.
2010 same thing at Military Bases and live or die.
2020 disease, no jobs, everything closed, world wide panic, war, hate & live or die.
2030 more of the same.
2040 still more of the same.
2050 What can i guess, more of the same?
2060 an you know its still more of the same.
2070 and if you think I can offer anything else?
2080 more of more of the same.
2090 Mother nature is our greatest challenge
2100 and its still more of the same +
2200 and still more, same old same old
2300 its getting repetitive isn't it?
2400 Oh My God, it will never change will it?
2500 I'm getting sick and tired of repeating what I have said.
2600 Ok it's time to retire, let the young bucks handle all the blame?

So not a glitch that fixes itself overnight. Well if anyone is still interested, you could do a search on Youtube. It's on a channel called 'Just Have a Think' and the video title is 'Is the Gulf Stream Collapsing'. That seems to be the best I can offer on this, sorry about that.
I took a quick look on YouTube; didn't see it, though I didn't look at all their offerings.

It looks like they removed the video (or YouTube did), and that's why it's not appearing.

Debrah tell us what words you use in YouTube's search.

Which experts were those? I remember hearing some scientists warning about computer problems associated with Y2K but they actually did the warning back in the late 80s (maybe early 90s) and the problems got addressed. I don't remember hearing about any actual experts talking about it all ending in 2000.
The Y2K (Year2000) problem was with calendar software (& some hardware) that was designed in the 70's/80's. For efficiency, many programmers assumed that the year would never exceed 1999 since it was so far away.

Some 'experts' predicted that incrementing the year 1999 would result in a value of 1900 instead of 2000 which would cause major calculation errors with many software applications and general chaos in business.

A few of my colleagues in software engineering made a lot of money reviewing and fixing these issues on mainframe computers. There were also issues with some calendar hardware which were harder to fix. There were very few actual problems.

This is an abstract comment by design! The term catastrophic can mean anything unusual. What is catastrophic to one person may not be catastrophic to another. Move on I say...

That's it. The one I had bookmarked and tried to link here! What was I doing that screwed it up? My husband says I have a superpower, an ability to make electronics not work as they're supposed to 😆 ! Was that one more effect of my 'superpower'?
Depends on how you tried to link to the video. One way to do it — click the video icon (to the left of the quotation marks on the toolbar above the reply box where you type) and link from there.

Hmmm, well I tried just dropping the link in via cut and paste and I used the 'links' on one effort and I tried the 'media' in the options....but c'est la vie, officeripley managed it so it's all good right? ☺️

I used 'youtube just give it a think is the gulf stream collapsing'. Should come up first on your search page.
Thank you. I believe I found it. It was posted by Just Have A Think and is 13:33 long, right? Related videos also come up. I watched some of it but it was a bit late in my day and my brain couldn't process all of that information. Plus I get bored pretty easily (due to ADD) if it's not a subject I'm very interested in. I do want to get back to it though and check out at least a couple of others on the subject.

I also didn't see it on the Just a Think channel, so I tried searching "gulf stream climate" in YouTube and it popped up; don't know why it didn't show by going to their channel first, oh well, go figure tech.

The problem seems to be the people on the coasts and those requiring extensive terraforming (A/C, diverting water hundreds of miles) to live the high life.

Might be time to build even more walls along new borders!

John Clauser has not presented any peer-reviewed scientific evidence that contradicts the current consensus on the reality and anthropogenic origins of climate change. While he has expressed skepticism about certain aspects of climate science, his claims have been widely criticized by climate scientists for lacking rigor and contradicting established data and scientific understanding.

Here are some specific points to consider:
  1. Clauser's expertise: Though a Nobel laureate in physics, his area of specialization is quantum mechanics, not climate science. This lack of specific expertise raises concerns about his qualifications to analyze and critique complex climate models and data.
  2. Nature of his claims: Clauser's arguments often rely on misinterpretations of scientific data, methodological oversimplifications, and cherry-picking specific findings to fit his narrative. Additionally, he frequently employs vague and unsupported assertions without providing empirical evidence or rigorous analysis.
  3. Contradiction with established consensus: The overwhelming majority of climate scientists, based on decades of research and vast amounts of data, agree that human activity is the primary driver of current climate change. Clauser's claims directly contradict this established consensus and lack the necessary scientific backing to be considered valid.
  4. Criticism from the scientific community: Clauser's statements have been criticized by numerous climate scientists as misleading, inaccurate, and lacking scientific rigor. These critiques highlight the flaws in his arguments and emphasize the importance of relying on peer-reviewed research and established scientific consensus.
It's important to remember that scientific knowledge evolves through rigorous evaluation and critical analysis. While skepticism and questioning assumptions are crucial aspects of scientific progress, these efforts must be based on sound methodology, credible data, and transparent analysis. In the case of climate change, the overwhelming majority of evidence points towards human activity as the primary driver of global warming, and Clauser's claims lack the necessary scientific rigor to challenge this established consensus.

Instead of relying on individuals without relevant expertise or those making unsupported claims, it's vital to seek information from trustworthy sources like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and reputable scientific institutions. These organizations rely on rigorous peer-reviewed research and provide comprehensive, evidence-based assessments of the current state of climate science.

By critically evaluating information and relying on trustworthy sources, we can gain a more accurate understanding of the complex issue of climate change and contribute to informed discussions and solutions.
