Latest XL Bully attack - woman dead

It's on BBC news, the scenario.

Let's look at the facts. Two XL Bully dogs inside a house with their 6 puppies. The owner, who has been warned about the aggressive dogs, allows a relative, the female victim, to stay with this pack of dogs along with his 11 year old boy. He goes out. Since the puppies often fight, he leaves instructions for the woman to take a broom to them if necessary, which she does.

I see irresponsibility and stupidity. The behaviour of the dogs is natural in these circumstances where they perceive their puppies are being threatened. Crucially, their pack leader, the male owner, is not there. The woman had no authority over the dogs as they saw it no doubt. So they attacked and killed her.

Why were they being bred anyway and look how many dogs were crammed into that house. Did these dogs get veterinary attention, did the owner take any note at all of the new laws? Unlikely.

Some people shouldn't have dogs or pets period. Sadly this is one of them. And yes eveyone should be taught a few things about nature and animals including if an animal acts out of fear it won't be pretty or personal. Just deadly.

RIP victim

I believe that's the 13th victim of XL bullies in the last 2 years... The government has placed a Ban on owning them as from September this year, and of course XL bully owners are protesting in marches etc... but the fact remains, whether people argue that it's the owners, not the dogs... those dogs are killing people ... they have to be banned from being a household pet..

There is a complete lack of regulation around dog breeding. Simple. We need to ensure that the law holds the dog owner responsible for what their dogs do. A dog kills someone, you're up for manslaughter. I am a life long dog owner, I would happily accept the burden of responsibility.

Did I miss something? I agree with all that's been said but the dogs attacked and killed the woman and in that frenzy the young boy wasn't attacked or injured? Maybe because the dogs were familiar with him?
She was weilding the broom I presume, the dogs will have set upon her to protect their babies.
The absent owner was an arrogant fool who had disregarded all warnings. Why would anyone keep these huge powerful dogs cooped up in a small house? I hope he is punished severely for this crime - criminal it is to disregard law.
Nobody should keep these dogs, it's just a misguided status thing. I dread if people abandon them and let them run wild, to become a danger to all.

Or maybe because the dogs did not feel threatened by the young boy! The guy who put a woman and her young boy in with a bunch of dogs with puppies was a complete idiot. All animals will protect their puppies if they feel threatened. The woman had a child that she instinctively was protecting, so you automatically have a situation that can go bad! The guy that did this if responsible for the death, end of story!

Of course, the dog must be put down as once they harm someone you cannot take any more risks. But, the guy who set this up should be locked up for sure....

I hope the owner wasn't breeding his dogs for dog fighting.

Recently local news carried an article about police recusing a staving dog found in an ally.
It was injured, ears, legs,, they think it was used as 'bait'.

From it's pictures appears to be small pit bull.

Yes ,dog fighting is banned,,but still goes on uncover.
Anything for money, entertainment?

The grandma went to visit her grandson at the property. The owner of the dogs was out but told her to use a broom to separate the puppies if they were fighting. This indicates how he must have been treating them. You can imagine what happened.
Police shot the dogs but they had killed her by then. It couldn't have been more of a dangerous scenario. The boy at least escaped to raise the alarm.

That was a horrific death which was caused by mishandling and ignorance of dogs. These powerful animals shouldn't have been cooped up like that. The owner is fully to blame and he looks a right thug.

Just terrible.

What happened to the name? They were always called 'bulldogs' right? This one, Bully, is a breed since 2004. What's the difference?

One can argue for days about whether certain dog breeds are inherently dangerous or not, but the fact is if you get attacked by a chihuahua or a miniature poodle, you're probably going to have some small holes in your ankle or hand.

Get attacked by a big pit bull or a Doberman or a Rottweiler? You could lose your face or your throat.....and your life.

A small dog will go for whatever is nearest. A "fighting" breed goes for the kill.

These types of people should not be allowed to own any dogs, especially a breed like this who need positive training and socialization, and love. The fact that they're breeding them for profit makes me very angry also. I have zero tolerance for animal abusers, and that's what these owners are. May the victim rest in peace, hope the owners are charged with her murder.

This is the owner of the killer dogs... 38 years old.. They say never judge a book by it's cover , but if it quacks like a duck'' no-one is telling me what to do with my F'in dogs''.. then it is a duck....

he's now begging people's forgiveness, and demanding that all dogs of this type be banned...etc.... trying to save his own skin obviously...
Actually, maybe surprisingly, I feel sad for him. Even the most thick thug surely would never have wanted this. He has been very very stupid and irresponsible but if he is genuinely remorseful it is something. Perhaps others like him will now do the right thing and prevent further tragedies. He must face his punishment but his own conscience will be a severe punishment too. None of us wants to be the cause of anyone's dreadful death after all.

Here's the bad news. There are a lot of people these days who don't seem to have a conscience. They care only for themselves, and the effect will have on them directly. Caring about others? Nah. We live in self-centered times. Times when it's okay to hate on someone else over a word or opinion about trivial things. Some people are just impervious. Sadly.

I'm all for personal freedom, but too many people use the personal freedom in a way that spoils the personal freedom of others. As though they don't live in a society.

I can't see him being remorseful because he refused to have them muzzled when he was told he had to say ''no-one is going to tell me what to ''.. etc.. the fact is he was breeding from these dogs.. and the money was more important to him... and only now he's facing prison is he acting sorry...
