Sleep! Sleep! Sleep! Feeling tired? Sleeeeep!

I am usually to bed around 8 pm and up at 4:30 am. Then on the go all day. But, this past year (I am 75) I've been getting sleepy after lunch. I've fought it. Only to feel draggie all afternoon. Does anyone feel a nap time in the afternoon? Do you fight it? How? Watching my eyelids means burning daylight. I am wasting my retirement. Or is this how it is supposed to be?

I don't think taking a short nap after lunch is wasting your retirement. If you feel a bit sleepy after lunch, have fought it, and feel draggy all afternoon, I think a nap is a good thing that would rejuvenate you so you can feel better and carry on with the rest of your day. If I feel like I need a nap occasionally, I go down and take one guilt-free. 🙃🙂

I've never been a napper... so yeah, I fight it tooth and nail. It's not just that I don't "want" to doze off, it's that any time over the years when it did happen, I felt miserable for the rest of the day... sometimes like I was drugged or something. 😴🥱

If I curl up on the couch in the afternoon, it is a sure thing I will get tired and fall asleep. If I skip a nap, I will be ready for bed by 7pm. :ROFLMAO: I still get a second wind though and can fight through that and wake myself up enough to carry on if I have dinner plans, etc.

I’m mediated so sleep a lot more.when I get too tired during the day, I have a nap.
Maybe some of the sleeping is due to the seasons. Hopefully it’s not permanent.
Wishing you the best. Getting too much sleep is better than not enough. There’s a silver lining in everything.

Napping must be very common because when I was at a dinner the other night, someone mentioned they took an afternoon nap before the 6pm dinner. That's not even a late dinner hour.

I develop non-standard sleep patterns out of nowhere. Sometimes by late afternoon I'm just ready, and might nap one or even two hours. Then be up, down, all around the clock. I do appreciate being retired though, which allows me to play catch-up most days and just sleep in until 9 AM if it feels good once I'm sleeping well. At a certain point though being up feels like an empty place. Few people are active even online. Then I'll lie in bed with an ASMR video, often by those who begin fairly chatty and then transition to meditations or Reiki hand movements and soft whispers.

I used to think "crystal wavers" were just a brand of nutty dreamers. That may or may not be true, but I found that once I learned to suspend disbelief I can appreciate their intentions.

I would say, try a nap. It might be good for you.
If it bothers your nighttime sleep then try a short walk after lunch.

Having a hard time staying up past 8:30pm because I am BORED and can't take another minute of it. Nothing seems interesting enough to stay out of bed for. I don't like this. Guess I get tired of my own company after spending all day with me and need a break. Listen to TV in bed, bad stuff, the news channel; if I wake up during night I switch TV to meditation music till I'm up for the day.

Wes, I'm 77,that's exactly the problem I'm going through, now. I try to go to bed @11, and get up @8. I've gone to bed @ 2AM most of my life, so that's a change for me. After lunch, it's hard to not fall asleep. But if I take a nap, soon naps will grow into a 4 hour nap and I can't fall asleep till 3AM to sleep 4 more hours. Then I feel like lousy.
You feel dumb screwing up "sleep".

I sleep maybe just a few hours a night so i need a nap and a few cups of coffee

I have two old dogs and they get up during the night and not at the same time either !

If its not them its Menopause hot flashes or i have to get up to go to the bathroom and it always happens when they are sleeping lol

I take my naps whenever i can !

I have napped after lunch for as long as I can remember. It really does split the day in half. When I wake up after a nap I feel off, but I know now that it takes a few hours to feel ok again. But not as fresh as the mornings.

I've wondered about taking a nap myself. I never used to nod off watching TV in the evening but started to do so a year or more ago. I try not to take naps but if I ever fully retire, I may.
