Hi. Can I transfer my direct express social security card to my bank account for direct deposit if there is only a little or no money on my social security card?

Hi, I found this on the social security site:

Social Security Administration | Direct Deposit

The way I interpret it is you can have either a bank account and have SS directly deposited OR you can have the Express card you mentioned without having a bank account.

If I understand your question, I think I would spend the balance on the Express card as you usually do. But, do be sure and notify SS of your existing bank account so Future Monthly Benefits go to your already existing bank account.

Hope this helps.

I would go to the Bank and the Agent can easily set up direct deposit to your Checking account.
Or Savings account. Also get you a Debit Card which lowers Checking costs. Possibly you might
set up an SSN account password with your local Social Security agent. They will be located in
your Federal Building. I would cash out what ever the ballance on the Express card is. You next
Social security payment will come to your Bank Account Debit card. I changed banks when I moved
15 years ago and followed those procedures. Same Banking Co. too....

Not too familiar with the SSA card. I would go here and set up an SSA account. You will need an email account. You can do almost anything you need from there. When you are ready with a checking account including Routing & Account number (get an ATM debit card even if you don't want a credit card) you can send your SS check directly.

It takes up to 2 months to activate the request. I've found the only thing you can't do without going in is changing your fed tax withholding exemptions. Changing your profile, banks, beneficiaries, password, addresses,,,etc. All can be done online.
