Unusually warm winter up north?

I read that places like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Montana had a rather warm winter. No ice fishing and very little skiing. Is this true?

We had a few really cold days and some snow, but if I had to say, I think we had a fairly mild winter and much less snow than average. I only had to shovel my driveway 5 times and no snowfall was more than 6 inches (which to an upstate New Yorker is just a dusting). However, it seemed more windy.

We've had some bitter cold weather here but not much snow because the temperatures rise just before the storm hits which lets us off the hook. I prefer that TBH. :giggle:

Had some ice fishing, but it is getting unsafe where I like to go. About 5" of ice a few weeks ago. But it was quite nice this year! Unfortunately, won't be any late season ice fishing in late March and early April, when it is at its best for panfish. Caught a bunch of bass through ice (more than ever before through ice) and a few northerns, one measuring over 28". No snow at all for much of the winter!

The ice cover on all five of the Great Lakes this year has been minimal, compared to previous year averages. The city of Toronto's snow truck fleet of over 800 plow and sanding trucks has only been used four times since November the 15th, which is a really low number. On a personal level, we have only had 2 days where our snow shoveling contractor has had to come and clear our sidewalk in front of our house.

Last week on Tuesday , the high temperature at Windsor, Ontario across the river from Detroit Michigan, was SEVENTY TWO DEGREES Farenheight, or 22 degrees Celsius, in February !! On the same day, the daily high at Moose Factory up in Hudson's Bay was minus 37 C .
