Europeans Share "Hard Truths" About We Americans

The irony of the whole thing is the Person who posted this is a peace loving American....
Awww...thank you HD❣️I am that! I didn't mean to ruffle feathers with this post...I just wondered what people on both sides of the water would think about the list. I had read something similar a couple of years ago but didn't post it. The bottom line is that civil discussions are possible and should be considered as the first option when disagreeing with someone. And I do agree that every country has it's issues; there's no perfect place. That's the way of the world.

There are many Americans living here in the UK who are married to other Americans and raising their children here or are married to a Brit.

Many of them make Youtube videos comparing the 2 countries..

One of them is a young American Floridian woman married to a brit.. and she touches on differences between the 2 other Americans don't address... whether good or bad..
It's interesting to watch her channel, which I only found relatively recently.. to understand more about why Americans do things the way they do.. or live in certain ways. Given that she's so young she readily admits she can only talk for where she comes from in the US.. and the 10 years she's lived in the UK..

If she creates a video panning something about the USA.. she will do simialr with the UK...

here is one, that was very interesting to me....

..people will know that here I often mention having baked beans on toast or for breakfast, and in jacket potatoes , which is a something most Brits have.. and Americans are puzzled.. here she explains the difference and why it's normal in the UK...

here she is critiquing things about the UK in her opinion.... :D

Just so you know we do have the option to pay at the pump at most British petrol stations...

Finding something to pick apart about the US by a European country seems silly, and such a waste of time.

... Yes, we talk different, spell things differently, eat different food, and live differently in general ... no surprise there.
You "do you", and we will continue to not care.

We have important things in the world to focus on ... mainly the competition between US and the other Super Powers ... China, Russia.

In 2015, two illegal immigrants shot and killed my wonderful brother while attempting to steal his vehicle. They got his vehicle, took it for a joy ride then abandoned it. They stole a life, a loss from which I will never recover. I have a lot of thoughts about these topics, none of which I'll go into detail here but you might be able to discern what they are.
You have my deepest sympathy Leann. To lose your beloved brother during such a senseless, hateful act....well, I can certainly imagine how you feel. During most of my daily prayers, among other things, I pray for justice and peace for those who have lost loved ones to senseless violence.
May your brother R.I.P. R.I.P Candle .gif

You don't think the thief got his just desserts?
That some people take justice into their own hands and think that shooting is the answer has been an escalating problem lately! We have a criminal justice system (although not always as equal as proclaimed) to deal with people who commit crimes. So not, the car thief did not get his "just desserts". But perhaps the shooter got his.

Did this bit of nastiness slip through the cracks? Europe did not "send" their - what? Their worst? The European immigrants who were lucky enough to arrive here were mostly escaping from horrors, violence, poverty, and unspeakable atrocities.

And "what we are getting from down south?" Really? Desperate immigrants who love this country and only want to come here to work?

Whoever or whatever you are oldaunt, you should be ashamed.
No, the comment was replied to a couple of times by other members.

I did not expect this simple ask of opinions to start such a firestorm of emotions!! I certainly did not mean for it to fester into nastiness! If there's anything I've learned for sure being a senior member on this forum, it's that we are often more alike than different, no matter where we live. There are thousands of threads here...most are informative and good natured. Many providing not only interesting information but love, empathy and support for each other. It is in those that I marvel at how many similarities we share. Peace!

Here's why folks feel the need to "take justice into their own hands" - Murder suspect with a long criminal history was was out on bond for a 2018 shooting that left one person dead. And, shockingly,, he did not show up for his murder trial! This is a central Florida case, and it all happened about 20 miles from where I live. Mr. Brown, meet Mr, Glock.

Why not? Why can't we compare differences between countries without people getting snarky or defensive?
I didn't see this thread as being about comparing countries, I took it more literally as being about what the rest of the world sees or perceives the USA to be like. Easier for an outsider to see than for the locals, eg the gun culture.
OK before anyone gets defensive I know how diverse the USA is, there's pro and anti gun people plus there's a huge amount of diversity within the shooting public.
It's a sad irony that the *United States* is becoming increasingly polarised, watch this space until November and on to January.

We can and we do which is why we end up with animosity and patriotism. Thats what comparing does. We divide and conquer, every single time. Luckily it’s a type only forum.

The thread is about how Europeans feel about Americans. It’s easier for an outsider to see the gun culture?

Of course it is but they won’t ever see the problems with it even with two plus shootings a day. Those people are just Americans with mental disorder.

Of course Americans are going to be polarized . You’ve got an entire country owning guns. The ones who use them have mental disorders and the ones who don’t are stable, law abiding citizens. Nobody knows the difference until the murders happen? This last statement really isn’t a question. Nobody who shoots a gun thinks they are unstable. It’s their constitutional right.

If any of my post is political please feel free to delete it. I’m not sure what’s political and what’s not any more.

As always, when someone claims to have some "hard truths", you can bet they have some personal opinions they want to add some 'credibility to.'

Of course, most readers see through this and accept it as someone's opinions. They may agree or disagree, but all recognize them for what they are, opinions!

"Truth" is in the eye of the beholder, not necessarily a real truth.

@PeppermintPatty
Uh oh, i always consider divide and conquer as the first rule of fascism.
I'd like a dollar for every time I've said that...
Call it what you like. It’s what happens when people compare one another . It happens individually and happens amongst groups When it happens between countries, it often turns into WAR! I’m not fond of it either.
I just don’t have any fancy words for it.

No I dont think so.

Adults should be able to have a discussion comparing differences between countries without animosity or patriotism.

Well, up to us to keep conversations friendly and not get snarky or defensive.

Have certainly seen such - it can be done, it isnt put downs of another country or one upmanship - just interesting discussions about differences.

talking in general terms - not commenting on article which clearly deliberately used inflammatory language to bait people and some people took the bait

just skimmed through it all - usual stuff seen it many times on many forums mixed and just national - "to err is human to forgive is devine"! and not to even mention is the icing on the cake!
