We are almost certainly headed into a society where robots and AI will be taking over millions of jobs currently done by humans.
How we will navigate those waters is unclear. One proposal is to shift to a Basic Universal Income, but how would it be funded?
Another troubling aspect is how it will change us.
Will we feel unimportant and less needed?
Would we basically be funding a future of lazy, unmotivated human beings?
It may free us up to do more creative things, but with the rise of AI, it will be increasingly difficult to compete with their creativity?
How do you think this will change society?

If no one is working, there is no tax money generated to pay a UI, and the only wealth will be in the hands of those owning the AI. I don't see them as wanting to share much.
Bill Gates has proposed a robot tax to pay for the income. No one has any idea how that would work out, or even if it would be fair to people owning robots. We don't tax our washing machines or dishwashers every year.

Will robots have to pay into Social Security, even though they will never be allowed to collect it?
If not, how will the system survive and we as well?

Right now, I don't know what percentage of people are involved in the sciences, it's not huge. But when robots and AI are functioning, I don't think most will be chair bound, watching 100 year old reruns of "Gilligan's Island". I think we will get paid for increasing the human knowledge bank. It may free up humans to study whatever. Think of 6 billion minds, all aimed at getting knowledge.????

I feel it would be the end of humanity. A universal basic income is squat and will people enjoy owning nothing and having zero freedom in life? What's the motivation to do anything if you can never prosper in any way for it? What happens to the young? If the young are any indication of what this will do, mass suicide is more likely than a population growing in knowledge.

When AI is used to analyze and organize a structure for humans to be part of a world that is integrated with AI in most all aspects of one's life, it will do it in ways that will show us how to use our resource proficiently, and assign work for us to be a integral part of cooperating to create a society that emphasizes the well-being of people not their material worth. We will gladly be part of that kind of society. Food and shelter will be provided for all. It will be like a UBI but it will function more organically. Kind of like an ant colony. :)
