Reflections of My Life

Nice place you have Katlupe, I would have sworn tho that
I threw away all that stuff on top of the cabinets!!!! haha
Thank you!

All those vases I bought at thrift stores for those cabinets. I wanted a certain look. Everyone else stores stuff up there and I did not want to do that. Decorative. Especially when I added the fairy lights.

My sister has kept chickens the last 20 years. She usually only has 3 or 4. They are more pets than anything, She has had many different breeds over the years so I have seen a lot of different color eggs. They are fed on fresh fruit and greens, mealworms and some organic grains. I must say the eggs from a home chicken are so much better!
Yes, they are. I have two friends who raise their own chickens. If I was still in the country (and not with my husband) I would have a laying flock. I used to have a pet Rhode Island Red, Lil' Red and she laid eggs so big they did not fit in a jumbo container. I still miss that little girl. She was closer to me than any of my other animals ever were.

My dog, Nikita and Lil' Red were the best of friends.

In all the time I have lived here I have never needed to pull the cord on the alarms that are built into the walls. One by the bed and one by the toilet. In fact the one by the bed is kind of high so if I fell it would not do me any good. It was taped to the wall so it would not hang down when I moved in and I have not touched it ever. The other one is next to the toilet and is tied to the towel rack right next to the toilet. Since we are having a HUD inspection of our apartments we have been instructed to make sure they are hanging down.

I am afraid to touch mine. I will wait till almost the time of the inspection to do that. I do not want to cause the alarm to go off in my apartment. It is very loud! I think they are connected to the emergency squad in some way. A light above our apartment doors blink red. One of the problems with these alarms is that people who have cats kept having their cats setting off the alarms.

HUD inspection is done! They were 2 hours late and some people still are not done yet. I had a good inspection..........in fact, better than I could imagine! They are going to remove my electric stove and put in a cabinet with an area on top for my cooking appliances (Instant Pot, Induction burner, toaster oven, etc.). I am beyond excited about this! He said it is a "reasonable accommodation" and wrote it down. Also my cord in the bathroom on the alarm by the toilet is not long enough, has to reach the floor (in case I am on the floor).

One thing I especially appreciated was he wanted to test my smoke alarm and Rabbit was out and eating. He asked me if the alarm would scare the bunny. I said I can hold him but yes, it would upset him. So he said we can skip it (I know it works because in the fall it was tested and even before that the fire inspectors tested it too).

I am glad that they are fixing your call line, you never know when there might be a problem. I am waiting to hear from my son. His mother inlaw had a fall and was on the floor all night until someone came by to check on her.

He said that she broken something in her back, her potassium was low as well as a liver problem showing up in her blood. Very scary, we are the same age but she is very active. So it was a shock to me, I am worried she may have a recurrence of throat cancer she had a few years ago. I pray not but her husband died two years ago suddenly of a bladder cancer that returned in his brain. He was gone 7 days after they found it. They never expected that.

I am thinking I will go ahead and look into getting a personal alarm system just in case. I do not have any visitors other than my son and it can be a week or longer between visits or calls.

I will keep your son's MIL in my prayers for a good outcome. Yes, you should get an alarm system just to be safe. Living here I do not feel that I need one. I rely on my phone and it is always next to me even if I am working in the kitchen. I would call 911.

Today I have a quiet day in mind. If it doesn't rain I will try to go for a walk in the park. But our forecast is rain so I expect it will. I want to work on the story I have been writing. I have been printing it out a few chapters at a time.

My friend stopped in for awhile last night and I showed her that I was printing it out. She wants to read it! I told her I have much more to do. I can print out what I have though and let her read that. I have been making my corrections on it while I read it on the paper copy. It is easier to correct it that way rather than the computer. Must be my eyes can catch them easier there.

Remember all the trouble I told you about the bathroom in the lower level and how it had been told to us that it was an employees' bathroom only (for our TWO employees!). Not for the people who live here? Yesterday, I saw that our manager had put a sign up on it that says Public Restroom! How about that?

So off to have more coffee and do some paperwork I am behind on. Hope you all have a good day!

Oh Kat, pardon me butting in, but I hope you keep the stove. Just get a large board and cover it. Take the knobs off if you're worried it will get turned on accidentally.

One or more of your appliances may fail and you would need your stove. IMHO, a slowwww oven is even better than a crock pot. Doesn't take ALL day and the food tastes better than being boiled in a crock pot.

We're getting rain down here too, tonight.

that's fab news about getting the stove removed Kat... I can see how more worktop space would be of much more value to you...

I'm glad you got all those things taken care of. My daughter's stove doesn't work well. She lives alone and gets by with her Instant Pot, air fryer, and a toaster oven. I don't know if she ever misses her oven. She's never said so.
Anyway, good for you and kudos getting the downstairs bathroom opened up! 🙂

I don't want the stove. I have never used it since I moved here. They said it is a fire hazard even though I removed the knobs and the burners. I have a counter top material board that Sonny made for it. My NuWave oven cooks like an oven or an air fryer. And the Duxtop stove top is the burner I use for cooking in a pan or a skillet. If anything fails I will buy another one.

It didn't rain here after all but I never made it past the dumpster for a walk. Had a lot to do in the building.

It is easy to become negative about life among other things. Especially if things are not going your way. Someone who does not have hope becomes negative pretty fast. I was (and still am though have not seen him in almost 6 years) married to a man who was negative about everything under the sun. My whole life I was a pretty positive person. My parents both were and I think they taught both my brother and I to be that way.

I try to look for the good in my day even if I am not feeling well or am stressed about something (like presently it my son's move into my building very soon). But you will never hear me say a bad about him even though I get stressed out over him. I think he will do much better here. He needs his Mom, even though he is in his fifties.

I raised 61 rabbits as a kid in cages. The Winters were cold, sheltered, straw, food and water.
They multiplied. If they got loose they dug holes under the building of the farm. They would
not go and live with the wild ones. My dads shotgun and rabbit stew for dinner.
I don't want to talk about that hell anymore.

No, domestic rabbits are completely different from wild ones.

I only have had this one bunny my whole life. My brother had one when we were children. I would not want more than one though. He is a lot of work for me since things are harder for me mobility wise. But I love him with my whole heart and promised him I would take good care of him. He is my last pet. I really am a cat person so if I was ever to get another pet after he dies it would be a cat. But I promised myself I will not do that no matter what.

I just finished my new blog post and here is the link if you would like to read it. Now I am making Keto Chow and then going to vacuum.

I Love Lighting and Lamps In My Apartment

My wife and I have no nest feathering tendencies or talents. So of course I am in awe of what you do with your place. I love being in places like that. Enjoy, you've earned it.

Well if it's a fire hazard, then out it goes!

I don't have an InstaPot, but my old fashioned pressure cooker does it for me. But I do need to be there.
I can watch my kitchen right from where I am sitting at my computer. I never leave my apartment if anything is cooking or turned on. I make sure any of the cooking appliances are turned off. There are benefits of living in a small space. You can see almost everything.

I just read your blog entry. Your space looks so warm and comfortable! and well lit. :) I love the whole thing.

I was wondering if you have written about your life on the homestead on your blog or somewhere.?
Thank you! Yes, the older posts are about my Peaceful Forest Homestead. It goes back to about 2005, I think. The pictures are a lot smaller because that is how they had to be back then. Some posts don't have any pictures. I was new at it so not as good as the blog is now. There may be links in some of them because I used to get paid to write some certain post or an affiliate post. Now I don't put any affiliate links at all in them. Just about me.
