Who knew that Bob Hope was born in England ? Near London, to be exact.

yes we all have known that here in the Uk forever.... he was born in Kent ... we say County of Kent or just Kent ... but being an American speaker, he always would say Kent county.... whenever he was here in the Uk it was one of the first things he would talk about, he was very proud to have been born in England

The county of kent is in the south of England..the opposite side of London to where I am... I live 20 miles North... Kent is approximately 45 miles south of London..

Americans know about Bob Hope's English roots. Ditto Chaplin, Grant and Lansbury. I'd have guessed Kiefer to have been born in Canada, but {{shrug}}. No idea who Catrell was - had to look her up and realized I'd never seen her in anything.

having never watched sex and the city...I too wouldn't know Kim Cattrall if I bumped into her...

The name Kim Cattrall came up when I searched for British born, famous celebrities, resident abroad. To be honest, I too didn't know the name and not wanting to repeat the kind of faux pas that I made recently, I included her thinking that she was famous.

What faux pas? Not having children, means no young adult grandchildren. I'm out of touch with who is flavour of the month. At some function a while back, I think it might have been a charity gig, there were lots of young adults and the name Taylor Swift cropped up. Not a clue, and shame on me.
Back in the sixties, at the height of The Beatles fame, some bigwig, a politician maybe, or a high ranking church cleric famously said: "And who pray, are The Beatles?" I thought that remark was just so pompous, and here was I repeating history. What am I like?

everyone knows about Cary grant because unlike the others he barely lost his accent

On the flip side, Our last Prime Minister Boris Johnston was born in New York USA... and they don't come more bumbling, archetypal English than him, do they ?
Does that make him eligible to stand for election for POTUS? :ROFLMAO:

Don't worry...I'm similar when it comes to young celebrities, being like you without grandchildren to keep me updated ...

I didn't know that.

Both my brothers were born in Germany. I'm the only USA one.

They used to ask 'mother's maiden name' at banks as security info. My brother didn't know our mother's maiden name so the woman asked where he was born. My brother said 'Wildflecken Germany.' The woman at the bank said, we'll take that.

Someone may have brought this up, but the Brits had another more important influence on US entertainment and culture than Bob Hope, the so called “British Invasion“ of the 60’s. Much of the great music of that era originated in, and was inspired by, the Beatles to the BeeGees, and many other British sources. The British influence on American culture of that period, and beyond, was enormous.

The Gibb brothers were Australians, not British. An important distinction. Jimb.

The Brothers Gibb were Brits born on the Isle of Man to British parents, but Australia did play an important role in their musical career. British or Australian they were a significant element in the British Invasion of American musical culture. Gotta love their music.
