Will you get to see the the Total Eclipse on April 8?

Thanks for the advice from many here that I should get the actual safe glasses to use-since I am very sensitive to light .......maybe even best for me to watch it on TV. I sure don't intend to be on the road when it happens.
 

We are in the 90% area, so almost total here in northern Alabama. We are supposed to have rin almost all of next week, so it will probably be too cloudy to actually see the eclipse, but even with the clouds, we can see the sky get darker and then brighten back up again.
I am looking forward to seeing it.
It is interesting when you read about the astrological information for both this eclipse as well as the one we had in 2017, the stars and planets with in positions that they have not been in for thousands of years.
In the 2017 eclipse, I think it was Venus with jupiter passing through and coming out the bottom. Since Jupiter is the King planet, and this last happens over 2000 years ago, it was said to be the alignment that led the Magi to find the new King that the stars showed “being born”, and how they traveled to Bethlehem to find Jesus.

This time we have an almost complete alignment of Several planets just before the eclipse, on April 4th. And apparently, if you are looking from the city of Jerusalem on April 8th, all seven planets as well as the sun and the moon will be in a straight line.

I'm not worried. Shaking sticks and rattles dancing around a fire with feathers in my hair (ok, tied to my head) seem to have been effective in preventing its course from intersecting here.

The maps make it clear how effective this has been. Good luck to the rest of you who took no such precautions!
 
The last week or so, the local weather forecasters here in my hometown, Buffalo,NY can not figure out what the weather will be like,some say cloudy others say rain ho,hum
I'm not planning on watching the eclipse, I'll close my living room blinds and read my book

Dismissing early here, too... the school district letter says "to allow students to view this rare celestial event safely with their family." 🌌

Where I am (between New York City & Philadelphia), we will only see a partial eclipse. I saw the last one in 2017 and that was pretty neat. Even though it will occur in the middle of the work day, my fellow scientists and I will be in the courtyard of building to view it.
 
I'm in northern Ohio and the long range forecast is calling for mostly cloudy on the 8th., which is no surprise.

I have heard news reports of all the hotels in the area being fully booked and several hundred thousand people traveling to this area for viewing. They just better stay off my lawn.

Yep, true... or be forced to take off or arrange a sitter for little kids. I just saw that some Wegmans in PA and NY will be closing for half an hour on Monday... am I the only person on the planet who wonders what the big deal is?! It'll get dark like the last one and then it will get light again. Turn the lights on, or the headlights like at night. Not sure what I'm missing. 🤷‍♀️

I'm right there with you. As much as I find these kind of events interesting I don't understand how this has turned into such a big deal.

I agree with you. There's just way too much hype about the eclipse. It's a shadow, let's not get carried away. I saw one, it was cool. I understood the process. But the eclipse is going to be over in a few minutes. It's an event, I doubt seeing it is something you chisel on your tombstone.
 
I saw one when I was 15 years old. It was also in April so it was the Aries new moon solar eclipse. It was such a huge disappointment. We'd been told the sky would grow dark as midnig :giggle: ht and I totally believed this. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was with my friends at the local hangout. Nothing dramatic happened. The afternoon sky did not turn black as midnight. It just grew overcast like a cloudy day as the moon moved past the sun. That was it.

I'm not sure if the April 8 eclipse weather forecast is for clouds or not but I'm not going to bother with this eclipse. The world is not going to end and eclipses look better on TV. Is that the plan?
 
Some schools & businesses are closing that day due to the large influx of people expected to come into the area that normally wouldn't be there. They are expecting traffic problems in a lot of communities. Our favorite ice cream shop will be closed that day. I noticed today when we were out, several small stores have put up signs they would be closed. That day may cost some stores more money to be opened with no one showing up to do do business than to be closed.

Some small communities that are in the path of the eclipse had been hoping to make some extra money from these visitors & had places set up for them. Sadly, on March 18th those in Ohio who were hit by the tornadoes had that changed for them.

These towns are still in the middle of an immense cleanup that will be going on for weeks. Parking/gathering spots aren't open along with businesses that were destroyed. Local law enforcement are hoping people will stay away from these areas that day. We will see what happens.
 
I live in the path....I have a doctor appointment Monday morning at 10 am and usually after the appointment, I go out to lunch and run errands but not this time, I'm going straight home, I think the eclipse
will happen around 1 pm.
 
Most likely. I'm in Dallas. It is expected to be somewhat cloudy but I think we will still see it.

I saw on the news that DFW will be experiencing a very high level of traffic on Sunday and Monday, with greeters at the airport to welcome visitors. Also, rental car companies are sold out. This is due to people traveling here to see the eclipse.

Just to add- I heard on TV that this could cause traffic problems, but it will only last for about 4 minutes.

But it sure will be more dramatic then the last one I saw decades ago, due to a very cloudy sky.

I don't plan on leaving my home. I am below Buffalo, near the Finger Lakes. That's a cute idea Mr Ed! Good luck with you new addition to the family.
