What do you think of perfumes?

I can barely walk down that aisle in the grocery stores. I know the products I want and get out of there.

Usually these had a lavender scent - from the real thing. Or they could have been slivered cedar wood chips. Women used to have a closet lined with cedar to keep clothes fresh.
Ceder repels certain insects, too. The wardrobe in my cabin is made of ceder wood and so are the pantry shelves.

Who else used to select from those "rip and sniff" samples that came bound into magazine pages and put them into drawers of clothing?
Me! I thought it was just me that did this! :) I also put scented soap in with the clean towels and I make little bags for fresh lavendar and then hang the bags on the hangers in the wardrobe. Strong perfumes give me headache so I can only wear the lighter ones. (y)

My favorite for men is and always has been Old Spice. I know there are many out there that are more expensive and hyped, but I swear, for me nothing ever has beat the original Old Spice.

I also make my own fragrance. Right now I am experimenting with sandalwood and amber. I mix with alcohol and distilled water and put in spray bottle. A few drops on a cotton ball goes into my drawers.

I think perfume is lovely. I think sensitivities to perfume, perfume products,
can trigger allergy issues in many, whether it is fragrances soaps, lotions
laundry detergent, even dryer sheets, the list goes on for me and these are
triggers for my sneezing, coughing, even watery eyes at times. So for myself
I shop 'no fragrance' items best I can.

I do enjoy putting on a dab of perfume now and then, but nowhere near
my face, I put on my wrist. One of several favorites is Emeraude, so I make
an exception...

I am challenged if a person near me is wearing a fragranced perfume product
and some people pour on their perfumes and colognes, they love them and how
they smell. And they do smell pleasingly nice, but I have to move myself away from
the person, I do it discreetly though..

A friend gave me for my birthday some hand cream and body lotion which smells of marshmallows, in fact the brand name is MOR. I immediately could identify the perfume, it's just lovely and not overpowering. Fragrance notes are, TOP. White Carnation Marshmallow: HEART. Jasmine, Althaea Flower, English Rose. BASE. Sugar, Madagascan Vanilla, Snow Musk.

Since this was started by fuzzybuddy I'm guessing mens after shave will be OK to post about

Prior to my wife asking me to shave my head to see how bald looked this was her favorite after shave for me.
Fahrenheit Aftershave Lotion by Christian Dior for Men,3.4oz
The smell is great but doesn't dissapate so going out smelling like I bathed in it. NOT GOOD!

After it is Lectric shave for after shaving face & head. The alcohol content works great to get rid of that close shave burn AND more importantly dissapates really fast.
I'm a sucker for Farenheit on a man ....I used to like Paco Rabanne- Million for men and Lady Million..., but every man/woman and their dog started wearing it, and altho' it isn't cheap it cheapened it for me...

@LadyEmeraude, your mention of dryer sheets reminded me of all of those dryer sheets we pulled out of the closets & dressers my MIL put all over when we cleaned out her house. My SIL, who lived with her at the time, said her mom thought it made the house smell better. SIL thought they were nice too. OMG did those stink. I hoped the smell would subside before we had it on the market. Luckily the fresh paint in the house took that nasty smell away.

Hi @ Lilac, I also had a couple family members like your MIL who put
the dryer sheets around the house to make it smell better. It was so
strong and fragranced, sort of overwhelming if one is sensitive to it.
In all the drawers, underclothes drawers, even under the cushions on
the sofas, they also put some in empty flower vases and my one relative
preferred to put them in her shoes at the times she was not wearing them.
So many people love those strongly scented dryer sheets. As for me they
cause me to want and gag .... just an allergy reaction of sorts.

Traditional heavier scented perfumes give me a headache. I like the modern fresh scents from Clean Beauty Collective or Henry Rose. I like for people to say I smell nice rather than ask what perfume I'm wearing. Spritzing the lighter fresh scents throughout the day is energizing and makes me feel like I've just showered.

I have worn Shalimar for decades. I wanted to buy another, but there were too many bad reviews about the change in scent on Amazon. I'll have to try it in person to see if the perfume's reviews are baseless.

I used to wear them when I was younger. I have switched to scented lotions. I do not really care for colognes and perfumes. Mostly because many people put on far too much. It's supposed to be put on lightly, not choke everyone out within a mile radius of you.

Steve Martin in his stand-up comedy routines used to boast that he’d use tuna fish sandwiches for his fragrance. He’d dab a little behind each ear, and not smell like any other guy! It was economical, too, because the smell would last for three or four days… 😸

I don’t mind perfumes however I find some people use too much. Perfume isn’t meant to be bathed in. I worked with a woman who literally marinated herself in it and she smoked. Whenever she went out to smoke she’d freshen up her perfume. 🤢 It was so strong that my clothes reeked of cigarettes and perfume by the end of the day and I couldn’t wait to go home and shower.
I wear a very light scented body lotion and powder.

I dislike most of them. Same with most air fresheners, except Febreeze. Oh - and do you know many scented candles can actually make asthma and other lung conditions like COPD worse!? They can be lung irritants. Someone told my late brother who had COPD to burn those blankety-blank Glade candles to help him sleep. They probably made him sicker. He never told me he was using candles. If he had, I would have told him to not do that.

But I'm telling all of you - if you have Covid, are recovering from Covid or flu, or have any lung condition, DO NOT use scented candles and maybe throw out everything else with a strong scent too. Get a bedroom air purifier and that's all.

There are so many nice smelling body lotions, why bother with perfume? ... my feelings on the matter.

As for cigarette smoke - ugh!! Nothing can hide it.
