spent the day with older daughter and grandgirls...

Along with watching more of Anne of Green Gables with my older granddaughter, I helped her mom with dishes, freezing fruit, and brought heavy laundry (quilts) home. We discussed more about her job and had a good 'chin wag.'

@hollydolly, I hope your day with your daughter was wonderful!

@CinnamonSugar Anne if Green Gables is one of those stories I never get tired of seeing or reading.
I have ancestors from Prince Edward Island. I want to to visit one day. My brother visited several years ago.
I have dibs on watching with my grands.

We had a fabulous Day, CS..thanks for asking. The pity of it was that the weather was overcast with a cold wind.. so that was a shame when it came to taking pictures in the Gardens.. but oooh the house interior...fabulous. One of the best if not the Stately homes I've visited..

Got loads of pictures which I'll get all sorted in some kind of order and post tomorrow.. but the art in every room had to be seen to be believed, and the ceilings were a match for the Sistine Chapel

The rooms were just HUGE... the bedrooms massive.. the beds tiny compared to today.. because of course people were so much smaller back in the 15 & 16th century...

Here's a little taster...

This was a ceiling.. which was painted in the Masters' dressing room.

IMG-3949.jpg

this was another painted on the enormous ceiling of a huge staircase, which was/is called the Stairway of Hell.. I still have to find out why it's called that...

One thing I love about British culture is how they use artwork/paintings almost like wallpaper =)

Exactly that.... just astonishing work....I have some pictures where the paintings on the walls seem to be actually coming off the walls ..alive so to speak. I'll post those tomorrow... it's 11.30pm here now.. so it'll take me a little time to organise them.. but it was astounding. My favourite room was Queen Elizabeth 1st's bedroom... so gorgeous ...

I got my shopping therapy on today. My son took me to two Dollar Trees. At the first one, on the way to the mall, they didn't have all the items I went for. On the way to the mall, I noticed another Dollar Tree that I didn't know existed. We walked a short distance in the mall (I had to find a bathroom, which was in Macy's), then back to Sketchers store, my reason for going to the mall.

I was looking at their lightweight styles. that are similar but not quite like the pair I have, which are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Well...after trying on the lightweight arch support model, I noticed that it runs a little bigger than my pair, which is a good thing...but their prices are too high. $100 for a pair of basically cloth (and some other stretchy fabric) sneakers! I got mine from Amazon for either $39 or $49 a couple of years ago But when I went to order another pair, they were out of them. I'll check Amazon again. I'd rather not buy the arch support style though.

On the way to the mall, we passed a Starbucks and one was in the mall's food court. I didn't want to get the pumpkin bread (the only thing I buy at Starbucks) there because I figured it would be sky high. On to Dollar Tree #2. I got the items that I couldn't find in the first DT. Lo and behold, there was a Starbucks right across from it. The $4.95 for one slice of pumpkin bread is worth it as a once in a while treat.

We didn't go to the park today because it was raining in the morning. By about 2:00 it was warmer and drier, so we could have gone. The park would have been nice, but I was pleased that we had a productive shopping day since I got the supplies we need and the Lavoris mouthwash, plus a couple of snacks I wanted. That will be my DT of choice from now on because it is a little bigger and better stocked.

Nice day today. My neighbors with the kids weren't there. My neighbor on the side is still trying to sell his house, so he was super quiet. The neighbor in the back is friends with the side neighbor so he's probably being quiet or that house won't sell.

I got to take a glorious nap not having to think about any of them for once on a Saturday.

The weather was perfect for a nap, not too hot or cold.

Morning folks!!! Up since 4am again, ah well, on 3rd cuppa :coffee:
Not sure if i got plans for today or not...it seems that when I
am up so early, it takes till noon for my brain to be fully in gear LOL....it is chilly at 40F today, warms into 60's I think....catch u
all later.....

@hawkdon If I had three cups of coffee I'd be so wired that I'd be swinging off the ceiling fan.

I was up a little before 6 and took my coffee:coffee: to the patio to sit under the new umbrella☂️ because it's dry there :). It's 50 right now and not expected to get much "warmer" than that today with plenty more rain. I ❤️ ❤️❤️ the new umbrella☂️. Sent a picture to DS and he said it looks "substantial." Right. Substantial is a perfect description.

There are a bunch of smallish things that have needed to be done in The Hovel for a long time. Because it's raining, they may even get done at last. You know...all those "I'll do later" things? I might even...dust (!) but I did that a month or so ago and it just collected again. LOL

There's laundry that wants to get done, too...just the regular stuff and then? All those grubbies that were worn in the garden in the past couple of days. The jeans I wore yesterday while spreading black mulch will never be the same.

Another chilly morning but no frost, so that's something. Should at least reach mid-50s F and that's a step up.

But yeah, there are always those "around The Hovel" items including another pass through the closet to rearrange and sort out the obsolete items. Some sweaters that can go back into storage tubs until next year, heavier coats to clean and store, etc.

50s is a step up for you, a whole flight of steps down for us! I have my heat on.

Thanks for the reminders about the sweaters and other stuff to store. I might be able to keep sort of busy all day doing stuff, with the extra added bonus of making more time to spend in the garden when it gets warmer during the week.

Am trying very hard to get at least some laundry done. Yesterday, son was here. He replaced toilet seat which was broken, cleaned the floor, etc. things are actually shining. I'm so grateful for his help. Tomorrow I see doc for post op and think he will send me to vascular surgeon.

It's been a nightmare.

grey again today..high winds..had to have the heating on for an hour today...11deg... no rhyme or reason to this weather, given that even the tulips have died off... and we had temps of 70 deg last week

Anyway, did so much walking yesterday that I felt super tired today so fell asleep around 1pm for a couple of hours today...

I've posted some of the pictures from Burghley house visit yesterday ..for those who are interested...

You'll find them here..

Yesterday's day out to visit a Stately home and Gardens

I'll post more later...

Thanks to @dilettante my closet has been decluttered from winter sweaters and such. All clean, folded, put away until fall. Yay.

Also glued a kitty figurine back together. DD bought it for DGD for a birthday gift, but it was broken in shipping. She reordered it, and they didn't want the broken one back so I got it by default. For a change, my fingers didn't get superglued together!

Did the laundry. All the dark stuff has been dried, folded, put away, and the light colors are in the dryer. When those are done, the only thing left to do is vacuum. That'll take at least, at the very least, 10 minutes. It's gonna be a long afternoon.

Still crickets from Sir. Now I'm wondering if schedule is just the usual manager FUBAR with schedules or if I'm really supposed to show up at 6am. Maybe "somebody" (meaning Sir) is scheduled for 4am? No way to know. If I show up at 4am and he's there, then what? If he's not there, I can get into the time system and manually log in. If I show up at 6am and he's not there, I'll be shooting myself in the foot because I'll have to stay until later in the morning. Damned if I do, damned if I don't:mad:

GIGI...I've got a plan.... even with the price of the flight, you can come here and have the cataracts done for less than £5k.... and you can tell those people where to stick their croissants..

It is possible that today is going to be our first 100F day of the year so I am starting the change to my daily summer routine. I got up about an hour earlier than I have been, had my cup of coffee and then went for my daily walk. I have laundry to do and weeds to pull so I will multitask and be out pulling the weeds while the laundry is doing it's thing. Later today I am going to visit my dad for awhile. I haven't seen him in awhile and miss seeing him. My sister's and I made a decision to move him to another care facility next week and it is much closer to my home so I look forward to that.

I have to wake up early tomorrow for a dental appointment so it will be an early night for me.

@hollydolly For sure! I just don't wanna take it out of my EF. EF is in case the fridge or TV or whatever dies. Trying to put enough aside for the surgery and the denture reline.

Next week I'm going to the credit union to get CDs while the interest rate is still at 4 1/2%. That'll ensure that I don't get a wild hair and spend it.

My early nights mean going to bed while it's still daylight. 7-730 so I can get up at 2:30. Yeah. It's an obscene hour to go to bed and an even more obscene hour to get up!

Trust me, you aren't missing much after you go to sleep so early ;)

Really bad luck today; or, a wrecked Sunday excursion.

It's a beautiful day today, and we decided driving 1 hour to the beach at the ocean. Because I have dogs in my car and my wife is allergic to dog fur, we had to use her car. I barely had entered Freeway 91, when I hit a metal object that caused us to have a flat tire.

Next shock: during a routine service, someone must have stolen the tire changing equipment from the car. So, we called the Auto Club Emergency (up to 3 services a year are free) and they were with us in 15 minutes even though it was Sunday morning. Great. But with the new donut emergency tire, the planned excursion was out-of-the-question. Instead, I drove home to drop off my wife.

I inspected the damaged tire: an almost brand-new tire (about $150) shot and the rim damaged. With a sledge hammer, I straightened out the rim and hope they will not insist on getting a new rim. Then I drove to the tire shop where they have the right tire size in stock. Most tire shops are open on Sundays, but not the one we usually go to. So, I'll be back tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.

We lost the $75 hubcap. I walked the freeway up and down and couldn't find it. Since my wife's 2010 Honda Fit has 130,000 miles down, I was thinking anyway of buying her a new car as retirement gift, hopefully next year. So, getting a generic hubcap will do in the meantime.
