G7 wants to end coal by 2025

I'm not against a clean environment, but I get that pendulum swing has hit a few in the noggin. We are a nation blessed with natural resources. I for one think we have great minds that can allow us to benefit from our energy resources and strike a reasonable balance with efforts to protect our environment. I'm in the eighth decade of my life. I seen some climate change, and if I live as long as I would like to I expect to see some more. Not all the climate changes have been bad. Let's just sit back and take another look at things. I don't see the oceans rising and there are plenty of polar bears.

I agree. And I'm also confident we will strike a reasonable balance.

Members of the G7 are hilarious sometimes.

I know they know that zero fossil materials is impossible today, and that it will be for quite some time. They know that.

But not many people realize that things like raincoats and boots are made w/fossil materials. Phones are, too, and house paint and automotive paint, and a whole bunch of other everyday stuff. So we have to be cautious about which industries will be effected if the drilling and whatnot is completely shut down.

It sounds like what you are advocating is that both sides actually sit down and discuss the issues in an intelligent way and come out with a solution that would not only benefit the people and the environment but also be realistic about it. That would mean that both sides of the issues would have to actually come up with compromises, something that seems to be a dirty word these days.

You can't leave it up to politicians.

It's got to be left to private enterprise and creativity...someone who's either a scientist, or is just smart and has a wealthy friend, is gonna solve this thing.

Ending coal by 2025 doesn't seem feasible. You say you don't see oceans rising but I've been reading articles that over the past few years have changed the theory that some cities will be flooded out by the end of this century to as early as 2030...some say 2050. So sea levels must be rising. Rather than try to choose an article to link, here's the link to the search page featuring articles about cities that are forecast to be underwater in this century. One of them is my second home...Atlantic City, N.J. I've also seen articles that say several shore towns in N.J. will be under water.

....could it be that we are NOW seeing results of climate change because too many in the past said 'lets just sit back and take another look at things'?

@TennVet, your title says 2025. Can you fix this.

TURIN, April 30 (Reuters) - Energy ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) major democracies will sign a deal to end the use of coal in power generation between 2030 and 2035, but could offer a leeway to Germany and Japan, two diplomatic sources said on Tuesday.
