Today, we're going to take our daughter out to a French restaurant for her birthday for lunch. We usually go there once a year, for either Summerlicious or Winterlicious.

Have fun and happy birthday to your daughter! Don't suppose you could order a Croque Madame lunch for me and overnight-ship it to me? Nah, didn't think so. 🤭 @Pinky

I will take care of my mom's mail today. These jobs hang over my head. I wish I had done it yesterday, but I couldn't find the time to squeeze it in. My taxes are done. I'm horrified at the money owed though. CPA said it's a good thing.

This morning I heard the birds chirping but went back to sleep, next thing I knew it was 6am
On my early walk around 6:20 temps was 52 as I went to buy local paper
My plan this morning take the bus & go to Kohl's, I'm looking for another pair of New Balance walking shoes, this is the only place I can find them. I'm also looking for non-skid bathroom mat for my new apt The last time I was at Kohl's was in Dec.
The rest of my day if it stays sunny, sit out in our community garden

I was surveying the garden after the rains last night.. as it's forecast for thunderstorms later again...

I caught hold of the wooden plant support stick, and got a splinter in my thumb and I can't get it out. I've tried needles, tweezers, everything.. but it's not coming out it's lying under the skin too deeply.. and horizontally.. and it hurts. I've now put some Magnesium drawing paste on it and a band-aid in the hope that will draw it out... anyone any better ideas ?

I got outside early to deal with lawn things. Locally there is a push for "No Mow May" or something like that, meant to aid pollinators. I need to determine what this means and what I should do about it if anything. At least I'll need one more once-over before jumping on this bandwagon if I do.

That's what I'd do too .. hope it helps.

@hollydolly Ouch. Keep an eye on it, and if you can't get it out, visit an ER. I once got a splinter in my *social* finger that festered and finally turned into blood poisoning! Um...after it was seen by a doctor and treated it was wrapped in gauze with instructions to keep it elevated. Well...that was interesting! It looked like I was giving the finger to everybody around me for a day or two:oops:🖕

I'm probably in for the day but finished everything that was on today's to-do garden list. Everything outside, that is. It's hot 🔥 out there. Expected to hit 90 today.

Still wrangling laundry, need to make hummingbird food, make the bed with clean linens and wash dishes.

It's 5.45pm now.. I'm just batch cooking minced beef, with mushrooms, onions , and broccoli. to have with mashed potato and dumplings, ... .
As soon as that is ready I'm going out to vote in the local elections...

The polling station is just a 5 minute walk away..... and then when I get back I'll have my dinner.

Water as hot as is comfortable and lots of salt and soak your thumb in it. I had a splinter which I could not remove and someone told me to do that and the splinter just seemed to come to the surface and was easy to remove. (y)

I have been weeding and burning this morning.
I have also cooked ahead for company tomorrow.
I made a blackberry cream pie that needs to be frozen a day ahead.
I made homemade white bread for BLTs.
A lemonade syrup for fresh lemonade. It made two pints so it should last awhile.
Having my afternoon coffee then I'll cut up a cantelope.
Then lunch. We have leftovers from yesterday. Yay!

Been so tired today. I was woken by the storms last night - my goodness! thunder, lightening, rain lashing down and the wind blowing everything over. I was very surprised to find that my plants and our little table outside were fine but, there is some shelter so perhaps that helped. Apparently there is another storm on it's way :(

It has been warm today but not sunny. I took a walk to the supermarket earlier to get some extra supplies but, other than that, it's been a lazy day.

Wow! you missed the storm! It was really noisy. I have a postal vote so, sent it off a week ago. I hope there is a decent turnout, so many people just don't bother.

Go soak your thumb! :)

yes that's my concern too that most people won't bother, but this is so important, I hope most people realise that.

yes thanks for the tip. I've just applied more Magnesium paste and a new plaster, so I'll try the salt later on this evening..

Salt (especially sea salt) is a natural antiseptic and anti-flammatory and really good for wounds and splinters. Some people gargle with it. Remember the old saying "rubbing salt on a wound"? Use hot water, as hot as you can comfortably bear without burning it, obviously :)

I‘d never heard of this so looked it up. Not sure if we have it in our drugstores.

Magnesium Sulfate Paste is a drawing paste and an easy solution to treat troublesome skin complaints and helps to ease discomfort. What causes boils and carbuncles? Boils and carbuncles are usually caused by a type of bacteria which infects 1 or more hair follicles.
